I was suffering from a hangover so I just wanted to stay at home. I needed some grub to help recuperate so I thought of ordering from Deliveroo!

I've yet to try Jamie's Italian so I thought this would be my chance! I ordered the Tagliatelle Bolognese (S$28.35) because a piping hot pasta with chunks of meat sounds like a perfect remedy for my churning hungover stomach.

My order came within 30 minutes and my food did indeed arrive piping hot! There was a hefty amount of pasta and generous clumps of slow-cooked pork and beef Bolognese. The food was packed with condiments on the side like Parmesan cheese and herby breadcrumbs.

I was really impressed by the food and also the delivery service, from the ease of ordering to the food being delivered at my doorstop!

And just nice! #DeliverooSG is having a promo during their Pasta vs Pizza Week (4th-10th July), when they'll be offering 1-for-1 pizzas or pastas from selected participating merchants. Treat yourself this week because you deserve the best! #BYDTB #BurppleRoo

Is the salted egg yolk craze over yet? I don't think so.

As with fried calamari and prawns, salted egg yolk sauce goes so well with battered fried barramundi.

It's just magical how the batter of the buttered salted egg fish & chips (S$17.90) remains so crispy after time, even with the buttery sauce. Together with the fiery accents from the curry leaves and garlic aioli accompaniment, this dish was the favourite of the night.

Thank you Black Tongue Bistro & Bar and Burpple for the invite!

I was reluctant to share this dish because I was a bit shellfish.

The plump prawns and vibrant yellows of the Seafood Nyonya Curry (S$16.90++) pasta could simply whet anyone's appetite.

The taste of the fragrant curry coated spaghetti is unique and strangely addictive. The flavour is akin to Laksa Lemak due to the coconut milk in the curry. The prawns were fresh and crunchy. Unfortunately, the mussels weren't as fresh as the prawns. However, we still wiped the plate clean.

Thank you to Fuad and Herbie of Black Tongue Bistro & Bar for a truly delicious meal and to Burpple for the invite! 😄

Wee Nam Kee's chicken rice was a childhood favourite of mine. I was devastated when I found out that Novena Ville was being vacated and torn down. Where would it go? 😢

Luckily, they opened a fancier outlet across the road at United Square since then. I'm happy to report that the quality has not gone down one bit. My steamed chicken drumstick rice ($5.30) was still as good as I remembered it to be. The chicken rice was piping hot and fragrant. The chicken meat and skin were tender and silky respectively while the sauce just enhances the flavour by multifold. Also, I'm surprised the price hasn't gone up much making it still very affordable for an air-conditioned, full-serviced restaurant.

A different kind of pancakes for a different audience.

Finally got to try the pancakes at the popular Kyushu Pancake Cafe. At about noon, every table was utilised and by Japanese women! So I got really excited because I thought this place must be legit!

The cafe boasts of their pancake mix which is made from seven specially selected Kyushu-grown grains. The informative section of the menu was in Japanese but I could deduce from the graphics that there's wheat, barley, glutinous rice and Okinawa sugar among other things.

One of the signatures, the Matcha Montblanc (S$18++), looked so good that I had to try it. Upon chomping on a chunk from the stack of pancakes, I knew this was one of those healthier alternative food choices...

The taste of the pancakes were muted as it's not as sweet as we would expect it to be. The fresh cream and Mont Blanc (puréed chestnuts) on top were delightful. The matcha sauce was good but it was simply too little for three pancakes.

I can understand why it's popular with the Japanese adults as they prefer their desserts not too sweet but this place isn't for me. I prefer my pancakes doused in syrup and all things sinful.

Best dish of the night.

The onglet (S$26+ per 100g) is simply divine. The restaurant recommends (and I recommend) that you have it medium rare. Each thick slice of the hangar steak is amazingly tender and so incredibly juicy. From the counter, I could observe the chef serving this dish every few minutes or so because it is that good and popular.

If it's not enough, there's those delectable lumps of molten bone marrow that literally melts in your mouth. There's also a side of watercress with a vinaigrette dressing to balance the dish. If you're having a couple of dishes to share, 150g should be enough for two.

Probably the most popular dish at Burnt Ends, the Burnt Ends' Sanger (S$20+).

Pulled pork sandwiches are one of my all-time favourite comfort foods. This one here's a bit different because it has a spicier chipotle aioli instead of the traditional BBQ sauce. The coleslaw was finely chopped, the pulled pork shoulder was gloriously tender (due to the long slow cooked process) and the brioche bun was so fluffy, which all culminated in this burger being one of the best I've ever chomped on.

Without fail, every guest at @burntends_sg will be trying this.

The highly popular Beef Marmalade and Pickles (S$14+) lives up to the hype. I gave up with dining etiquette and just used my hands as I didn't want to waste anything dropping off the toast.

Each bite of this dish is just packed with an explosion of flavours: the sweetness of the tender beef and caramelised onions, the tart sourness of the pickles and the bitter acidity of the sourdough toast. I'm definitely still craving this dish.

Finally got to try Burnt Ends - No 14 on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants and No 70 on World's 100 Best Restaurants. To my surprise, the food is decently priced and furthermore, no service charge even though the service was excellent. Who said you have to pay exorbitant prices for quality stuff?!

The Smoked Quail Egg with Caviar (S$15+ a pop) is a very refined appetiser. A lot happens at once in your mouth upon consuming it.

You're first greeted by the smoky flavour of the chilled egg's exterior, then you're hit by the slightly salty caviar which then slowly oozes a sweet taste that permeates your mouth upon chewing. It is then followed by the flowing molten egg yolk which coats your palate. That all happens in about one second.

Don't think I've ever had sticky date pancakes! And why haven't I done so earlier?

The Olivia Sticky Date Pancakes (S$12++) is just another amazing interpretation of how to cook with dates. The stack of four pancakes was fluffy and sweet (but not too sweet)! The vegetarian-friendly dish was doused in a generous amount of warm caramel peanut butter sauce and topped with a huge scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and banana slices!

Sweet dreams are made of this.

The Nutmare (S$9.50++), as Jenko said it in 22 Jump Street, your best nightmare. It's a decadent drink filled with your childhood favourites (which are still my current favourites).

It's a vanilla bean ice cream milkshake loaded with crushed peanuts, Oreos, Kit-Kat, drizzled with caramel sauce and topped with whipped cream and M&Ms.

Though my ageing adult body was in dismay, my inner child was screaming yes. #noragrets #bringsalltheboystotheyard
