Call me slow but I just managed to get my tastebuds on Tanuki Raw. I also had to have it delivered to my house via UberEATS.

The food was packaged and delivered really well. The onsen egg was even undisturbed.

For most of the dish, it was packed with flavours, from the juicy pan seared foie gras topped with loads of truffle soy to the Japanese mixed rice that's been doused in a black garlic brown butter sauce. However, with such strong flavours, the US black Angus short rib slices seem bland. They are tender but it's obvious that something is missing. Perhaps the slices should be thicker to retain the juicy flavour or seared more to give that burn taste.

One of my favourite dishes of the night - the Beef Cheek Pappardelle (S$28++).

The beef cheeks have been braised in Chianti wine for approximately six hours which resulted in huge but tender chunks of melt-in-your-mouth goodness. This dish can get a bit heavy due to the intensity of the sauce, meat and pasta so it would be good to pair it with a nice red, a cocktail or two?

Thank you to Roosevelt's Diner & Bar for the scrumptious dinner and @burpple for the invite!

So complex yet so simple.

The Pan Seared Hokkaido Scallops had so many elements that I was afraid the taste of scallop would be overshadowed but no, the scallop was a beautiful work of art.

The scallops were seared on one side to ensure they would not be overdone. They were rested on a bed of tangy yuzu mustard ricotta (so good that the cheese could be eaten on its own). On the bottom was a moat of melted savoury brown butter with seaweed and topped with sweet chopped roasted hazelnuts.

The mind behind the dish definitely knew what it was doing as everything went together swimmingly well.

Thank you to Roosevelt's Diner & Bar and @burpple for the invite and the lovely meal. Also major props to Ying for warmly hosting us and taking us through every dish and drink in painstaking detail. I really learned a lot about taste profiles and wines from her!

I honestly wasn't expecting much when I visited Treasures by Imperial Treasure at Paragon. The place had a pretty casual setting, the prices weren't exorbitant and I just wanted to fill my stomach.

To my surprise, everything was pretty good! The canton noodles were cooked perfectly as they struck the perfect state of QQ. The dim sum were fresh. However, what really stole the show was their BBQ Pork with Honey Sauce (S$12++).

Look at it glisten to my delight. The pork was piping hot which helped to promote and accentuate the fatty flavour together with the sweet, sweet honey. It was quite the party in my mouth! I intentionally became quiet so that my lunch companions would be distracted by their phones so I could sneak a few more pieces in my mouth. Oops.

I lava this so much. 🌋

The molten lava cake (S$10++) at Capri Trattoria & Pizzeria is simply divine. It is drizzled upon with orange liquor which was then set on fire. A sweet mix of citrusy and chocolatey aromas started to permeate the room which made my stomach ignore the 16 pastas I had and make room for dessert. The lava was flowing and the chocolate was sweet with a slight tinge of bitterness from the flames.

Okay, I've gotta share with you what heaven is like.

Imagine being served authentic Italian free-flow pasta for two hours for only S$28++. It's hard to, right? But it exists.

At Capri Trattoria & Pizzeria, from Tue-Thu, lunch and dinner, they're doing a Giro Pasta and Pizza menu - free-flow pasta OR pizza for as low as S$28++ or S$25++ respectively with a minimum of four diners. From a menu of 13 different pasta dishes, they allowed us to order two pastas first and upon completion, we're allowed to order the next two and henceforth. We had a total of 16 pastas, a new record I believe.

The pastas are extremely good. My favourite out of my many favourites is the Fettucine alla Piemontese (U.P S$28++). The truffle and cream sauce is wonderfully delicate and it pairs so well with the salty bresaola beef slices. All the pasta is homemade, there's just no other way you can have it.

Pasta la vista, baby!

An old favourite and my favourite at Paddy Hills.

The berry ricotta hotcake (S$23++) was better than I last tried it. It's definitely fluffier with a more uniform consistency throughout, which was what the chef intended.

The portion is still pretty big so share with it friend if you can!

From a stall with the very literal name 'Salted Egg Yolk Chicken'. Value for money (I think it was $4.50?) and a great choice if you are undecided and daunted by the immense variety in the Chinatown food centre.

CARB-E DIEM! Seize the carbs! 👊😋

To celebrate Penang Culture's fifth anniversary, the first halal certified restaurant of its kind has introduced new renditions of classic Penang favourites to its menu.

My favourites were the noodle dishes: Penang Lobster & Scallop Noodles (S$16.95++), Salmon Assam Laksa (S$11.95++) and Premium Crab Meat & Salted Egg Fried Kway Teow (pictured, S$15.95++).

The Penangite head chef with his twenty years of mastery has perfected the wok hei in this dish. The kway teow has been fried with garlic, beansprouts and a tinge of homemade sambal followed by copious amounts of prawns, squid, fish cake and cockles. He then modified the recipe by adding mashed salted egg (the 鹹蛋 kind, not salted egg yolk!), then shreds of mud crab meat and finally topping it off with salted egg crumbs.

I'm already missing this dish as I type this. You may enjoy the new menu at its other outlets in JEM or Century Square Mall.

This was an invited tasting. Huge thanks to Alex of Sixth Sense PR for the wonderful hospitality and of course, @burpple!

It's the month of June!

No better way to start it but by having a hearty breakfast. The Truffle Eggs Mushroom (S$21++) is a light yet filling and satisfying meal.

The berries butter makes a great accompaniment to the wonderfully toasted bread. The scrambled eggs were a bit runny and creamy (which is how I like them!) but the star would be the mushrooms sautéed in truffle oil. The mushrooms weren't raw, so they don't reek that pungent smell or taste but instead emanate delicate wafts of truffle.

I just can't get enough of chirashi.

The Bara Chirashi Kaisen Don at Bincho is now included in one of my fav chirashis around. It totally helps that their value-for-money donburi lunch sets (from $25++ to $45++) are now available on weekends and for Sunday dinners too.

My bara chirashi kaisen don set ($40++) comprised of an unagi appetiser, crispy chicken skin salad, pickled vegetables, chicken karaage, chicken soup and matcha tiramisu. It resembled a semi-omakase at a fraction of a price as all the dishes worked together seamlessly. The items are subject to change.
