Kolo mee (ๅนฒๆž้ข) is a type of Sarawakian chinese origin noodle dish made from springy egg noodles tossed in a vinegar and lard sauce. This simple dish is usually served with minced pork and lean char siu.
โ€ข
The kolo mee at choon hui cafe can be also served special, in which โ€˜spare partsโ€™ a euphemism for internal organs such as pork liver, pork balls and lean pork is added to the dish. The noodles were nice and springy, with the lard adding that distinct flavour. The liver was not overcooked, with a really flavourful pork ball in the mix. The fried shallots added a nice kick.

elacan bee hoon is a type of Sarawakian noodle dish that comes from an amalgamation of Chinese and Malay cultures. The medium to thick rice vermicelli noodle is served in a thick gravy made from belacan (fermented shrimp), shallots, tamarind paste, and gula Apong, a type of palm brown sugar, served with shredded cucumber, beansprouts, cuttlefish and century egg, topped off with a sweetened chilli sauce.
โ€ข
The belacan bihun here has a stronger broth, and the tamarind taste came though quite well. The use of actual duck egg for the century egg added a nice umami creaminess to the dish, which complemented the belacan broth. Give it a good mix before eating for a wholesome experience.

Sarawak laksa is a Sarawakian noodle dish consisting of bee hoon (rice vermicelli) served in a sambal coconut broth made with tamarind, lemongrass, galangal, served with shredded chicken, prawns, beansprouts, shredded omelette, with a side of sambal and lime.
โ€ข
The Sarawak laksa here is served with a medium to fine rice vermicelli noodle, with quite a light broth with a more pronounced prawn stock. Chicken pieces were tender, and prawns were bigger than expected. The broth here is more typical of the Chinese Sarawak laksa which tends to be lighter and is less lemak (uses less coconut milk). The notable missing component here is the shredded omelette, but the size of the prawns make up for it. You can see why this place is constantly argued as one of the best Sarawak laksa in Kuching.

Haagen-Dasz has come up with 4 new flavours in their mini collection. Our thoughts on the matter.
โ€”
Green Tea & Almond: Not a bad choice, with accentuated bitter flavours from the green tea and milk chocolate. The almonds give it a nice crunch.
โ€”
Mango & Raspberry: Not overtly sweet white chocolate, with tart freeze dried raspberry bits and creamy mango ice cream.โ€จโ€”
Vanilla Caramel Almond: A good vanilla ice cream which isnโ€™t too sweet, complemented with caramel swirls and almond bits.
โ€”
Chocolate Choc Almond: Rich chocolate ice cream with chocolate sauce in a dark chocolate shell with almond bits. Definitely for chocolate fans.

Nasi lemak is a Malay rice dish made from coconut rice served with a side of boiled egg, anchovies, peanuts, cucumber and sambal, with the occasional fried chicken on the side. Biryani is an Indian rice dish cooked with ghee (clarified butter), nutmeg, cloves, cardamom and an assortment indian spices.
โ€ข
The nasi lemak biryani at Maguldi was served with biryani rice, but had the addition of daun kesum (vietnamese mint), a herb commonly used in Malay cooking. It gave the very indian dish a very Malay touch, which made it quite interesting. The sambal has a good spicy kick to it, with a pronounced sweetness from the onions used. The chicken drumstick served on the side was an indian inspired ayam berempah, a traditional Malay fried chicken but with a more intense flavour. Quite a great nod to the intercultural culinary experience that is Malaysia.

Nasi lemak is a Malay dish consisting of coconut rice served with egg, sambal, cucumber, anchovies and peanuts with the occasional fried chicken. The nasi lemak burger is served with a thick cut of chicken breast ayam berempah, a Malay style deep fried curry and turmeric chicken, served with a sunny side up egg, cucumber slices, sambal dip, anchovies and peanuts, and curry leaves fries. The chicken breast was extremely succulent, with each bite causing little bursts of juicy chicken flavour. Definitely try this just for the chicken, although the chicken breast on its own is completely worth it.

Roast meats or siu mei (็‡’ๅ‘ณ) is a dish of Cantonese cuisine, found throughout Malaysia because of the Chinese diaspora. Dishes will usually include roast pork (siu yuk, ็‡’่‚‰), barbecue pork (char siu, ๅ‰็‡’), roast chicken rice (siu gaai, ็‡’้›ž) and an assortment of other roasts such as roast duck (siu ngaap, ็‡’้ดจ) and braised chicken (lou gaai, ๆปท้›ž). The roast chicken rice here was glistening and flavourful, with sweet and savoury skin, but most importantly, how tender the flesh was. The char siu however, was simply outstanding, crispy charred on the outside, with a nice intense caramel flavour throughout every bite, it is their speciality after all. Do not miss ordering this dish. The roast pork wasnโ€™t too bad, but was not the highlight of the roasts. A little on the expensive side coming to about RM60.00 odd for 4 people, but do give it a try.

Zucchini blossoms are a dish found in Italian, Spanish and Turkish cuisine, where the flowers of zucchini are seasoned, stuffed with ricotta and deep fried in batter.
โ€ข
The batter of the zucchini blossoms were deep fried well, which were crisp and still hot when served. The flowers were still fresh and yellow which is always a good sign. The cheese was a little more acidic, but played well with the savoury batter. The salt flakes on the side were a nice addition.

Kai See Hor Fun (้ธกไธ่™พๆฒณ็ฒ‰) is a Malaysian Chinese noodle dish consisting of hor fun (rice vermicelli), served in a prawn and chicken broth, with chicken breast strips, prawns, Chinese chives and prawn oil.
โ€ข
The broth was light and fragrant, with hints of deep fried shallot oil. The chicken breast strips were just the right amount, and prawns, although small, were sweet. Itโ€™s not hard to find good kai see hor fun, but it can be a challenge to find a great one outside Ipoh, and this is definitely one of the better ones. Although a meal on its own, this dish is usually complemented with a side serving of steamed chicken (็™ฝๅˆ‡้ธก) drizzled in soy and sesame oil. The best thing about this place is they also serve a healthy helping of braised meats (ๅค่‚‰), of which their braised pork intestines (ๅค็Œช่‚ ) stood out the most with its sweet disposition.

Chapati is a southern Indian flatbread made from whole wheat flour, making it one of the healthiest breads you can eat. Chapati is usually served with a selection of curries, including dhal.
โ€ข
The moonlike chapati served here was somehow still fluffy, which is quite hard to achieve for a bread that essentially uses little to no fat. Most chapati will have that distinct cardboard like texture, but not at Tiger Jit's. The curries served was a rich dhal, along with chickpea masala and one of their standouts, their mutton curry. The chickpea was crunchy and savoury, while the mutton had an intense curry flavour to it. Piquant perfection.

The antipasti platter is served with 4 types of cold cuts including salumi Milano, prosciutto di Parma and porchetta; 3 types of cheese including tomme, parmigiano reggiano and provolone; 3 condiments including preserved mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes and pesto; and a loaf of bread.
โ€ข
The selection of cold cuts were perfect for a lunch meal or over a glass of wine. The 4 cold cuts were a good mix of flavours; with the prosciutto di Parma standing out the most. The porchetta had a nice layer of fat, similar to lardo. The 3 types of cheese came in soft, medium and hard, and married perfectly with the sundried tomatoes and pesto as a makeshift bruschetta. You will never find a more affordable charcuterie in Kuala Lumpur.
