Wasn't sure I heard it right since the more expensive Hokkaido don was available, but maybe it used a better type of salmon?
Anyway although the soba was supposed to be in a special sesame sauce, I could only taste a very strong shoyu. I don't say it often, but this was too salty even for me! Portion was not very filling too.
We were also quite surprised by the measly vegetables on the yasai kakiage too! It was mostly fried batter with a strong taste of stale oil π
It was not my first, but it should be my last time at this outlet (and maybe this restaurant). The only good thing was we had a 15% off for ordering between 12-1pm ( thanks to J Passport) and it helped off set the GST and service tax. This marked the start of a string of bad lunches for the week π΅
You can get 2 Miso Buta Yaki Don at only $9.90! Be sure to order from the promotional section of the Self Service Kiosk. I feel very sorry for those who paid the full $17.90 for the Signature Flaming Beef Don like me. Be smart and bring a buddy to maximise your savings! You can mix and match among what seems like all the bowls they have.
I wished there was a section to indicate I want my beef medium rare. The dice cut Australian tenderloin came overcooked, too tough and had a beefy taste that no sauce could cover. I didn't like the sauce that came with the bowl, so I tried miso tare, spicy miso, garlic miso and yuzu pepper. I liked the last one, but too bad it doesn't go well with beef.
The sliced pork belly with garlic miso should be a better (if not cheaper) bet. And so the lunch curse of the week continues....
So there you have it! π
I like that the small serving of soba worth the generous ingredients, chicken breast, prawn, mushroom, sweet potato, green pepper, long beans and seaweed. Although I wouldn't mind more sauce, it was still sufficient, and the level 2 spiciness has a tiny bit of kick, so don't worry about going for level 3!
Tempura was crispy enough and not too greasy, so in all, not too bad!
Mixed tendon costs $16.80++, add $1 for soba/udon and $2 for a set that comes with chawanmushi and miso soup.
Genmaicha works well in any form! This is topped with Hokkaido milk espuma and roasted rice. Hidden inside is lots of azuki beans π
Catch it before the menu changes on Monday π And don't you think today's weather is perfect for this? π
Wanted to try the frittatas too, but it's not available on weekends!
There are a lot of ingredients in the sandwich, and luckily they do work well together and nothing overpowers. I like the crusty bread! The salad came quite heavily doused in lemon juice, but I quite like it this way π
P.S. I'm quite sad at the close of The Daily Roundup! Always wanted to go back for the crepes with yuzu butter π
Curry was pretty good and luckily just short of being too rich and the portion of meat is so generous!
Unfortunately, although it uses the same beef brisket as the pad see ew ($11.90++, very similar to char kway teow, but sweeter) it is more tough, probably due to the soaking in the curry! I will try the pad see ew next! It is for for those who like a heavier taste! Also the beef brisket in this dish is so tender!
If you like like it light, don't worry! The soup noodles are for you π
Kailan with pork belly also deserves a mention. I don't usually like kailan, but this is really nice! Not too tough and cooked just nice π
Take a queue number from the stall, and wait for your number to be called before ordering π
I made the mistake of coming here before 1pm, and it was a 45min wait π’ There are only 6 items, and everything is priced at $2.30!!
My favourite is the fluffy char siew bao and the plump har gow π Especially great when eaten hot!
It's interesting that they use chicken rice chilli, but the watery chilli with garlic actually went quite well with the items.
Find them at unit 97 from Wednesday to Sunday, 11am till they sell out!
Genmaicha is one of my (many) favourite flavour from Matchaya! Although not as strong as houjicha, the light roasty flavour with a hint of nuttiness is very much appreciated.
I can see the improvement in the texture of their warabi mochi, and I couldn't get enough, I need more! Too bad we are not fans of the roasted rice's texture, we preferred the usual puffed rice π
The kuromitsu espuma and salted cookie crumbs are a very nice touch and I love the combination made with the softserve π€€
I tried to restrain myself by ordering the cheaper bowls at less than $20, but thinking about the forecast of my work week, I decided WTH!! The sashimi is fresh and the otoro is nicely sliced β€οΈ The uni is a better variety than the cheaper bowls, hence it is light and creamy with the fishiness βΊοΈ Another good thing is that the ika is not rubbery! π
Only downside is that they don't serve fresh wasabi, or even tea! What they serve in the teapot is actually dashi, meant to mix with the ricebowl into ochazuke. I'll try that with the unagi don next time!
This was very much needed after too much meat the previous night π I chose salmon sashimi on salad with beetroot, broccoli, avocado and pumpkin. I like DIY concepts, but my bowl came up to $15! More expensive than the salmon soba with tofu set at $12.90 π The tofu was served with Thai Chilli sauce, very addictive! The beetroot came vinegared, which was a nice surprise as it helped mask the natural earthy taste of beetroots π
We had cabbage, lotus root, frozen tofu, enoki mushroom, luncheon meat, noodles and winter melon. Be careful not to go overboard or it will be expensive! There are other flavours like original, spicy, curry and sauerkraut! Our total meal was over $70 and more than enough to feed three π
Looking back, that may not be the best choice, this is good for sharing! π
