Just right opposite R&B tea is Yunique tea. Two bubble tea shops fighting against each other. This Taiwanese brand has a huge selection of tea options and non tea options and I couldn’t resist the red bean milk. Amount of red bean was generous!

There’s so many bubble tea shops here nowadays, such as this stall in Toa Payoh. Ordered a drink that’s more refreshing with pineapple bites at the bottom.

With most of them offering drinks that are after all pretty much similar, this place does have a few unique points about itself.
It has a small proper sit-down space like a cafe for one to chill out at. No cafe food but good enough for a short rest while enjoying their drinks.
Perhaps its competitive edge lies in its prices which are lower than most others. So maybe no hype to draw a long queue in the neighbourhood central; but this may be a good spot to stop by amidst the choices in the vicinity.

Situated right opposite R&B tea, 3-week old Yunique Tea is a new kid on the bubble tea block in Toa Payoh. Had certain expectations having read some reviews before my visit. I asked for recommendations and was told the Signature Messy Milk Tea with Brown Sugar Pearls. Well I am a fan of this drink, so why not?

However, after a few sips, I felt disappointed. Firstly, the brown sugar coated pearls weren’t warm enough such that even after mixing with the fresh milk, there wasn’t much brown sugar taste in the milk and felt like a total disharmony as though the pearls and milk were two separate entities happened to be in the same cup. Secondly, the pearls were rather firm and hard for chewing. Also, it’s slightly pricier than other bubble tea chains offering the same drink. I’d rather head to R&B for a better quality fresh milk with brown sugar pearls at a cheaper price, and it’s just opposite. Might return to try other concoctions (and I hope they would be more interesting), but not for this.

The newest bubble tea store on the block is Yunique Tea! Located at Toa Payoh Central, just opposite Courts / R&B, this new store is definitely looking to steal some of the bubble tea pie.

Their list is currently limited to fruit teas, brown sugar milk tea (sounds a tad bit familiar) & black sugar teas.

For a crazy hot day, I went for their Super Lemon Green, which is homemade green tea mixed with lemon juice! Sometime really simple & probably one you can do on your own, their version is light & really refreshing! Perfect for the weather!

As they’re super new, I’ve not heard of their Brown Sugar Milk Tea, but I guess that means I’d be back to do a taste test soon!
