(SGD 23++) Delivery from Tonkatsu Kazan in Novena. Came pretty hot and with the broth packed separately and neatly to avoid spills. Tasty ramen spicy tonkatsu broth with thin springy noodles. The chasu is of a thicker cut yet very tender. Comes topped with seaweed, chili, chopped scallions bean sprouts and half an egg perfectly soft boiled and marinated. Set includes 6 pan fried gyoza. Please excuse my poor plating skills.
π₯’ Topped with Chashu, Bamboo Shoots, Beansprouts, Spring Onions, half a flavoured Egg and Seaweed

π¬ Being a mixture of tonkotsu and shoyu, you can taste the slight creaminess from the tonkotsu and light umami flavour from the soy sauce paste. The broth was by no means bland but the flavours however, were not prominent and overall just kinda fell flat for me. The noodles were firm and twirled up with beansprouts (from my stirring), which I love as I enjoy the nice contrasting crunch. The single piece of chashu was well marinated but not very tender as it barely had any fats. Frankly, I was not too impressed by the ramen as nothing really stood out. I also felt like the toppings were skimped on, which made it rather pricey at a $15 price tag after tax.
Heard quite abit about their shoyu ramen ($12.80) as well, and it did not disappoint. The soup was not too heavy and salty and yet quite fragrant. The char siu probably is the star of the meal here, as it has the perfect fat to meat ratio, and is very beautifully tender. Quite a thick slab as well. Good to go if you are around the area! Came with an hard boiled egg that I'm surprised that I could get another!
After being rejected by the Hokkaido seafood upstairs, I strolled down to have jap ramen instead. The volcano ramen looked too big and filling for me so I had the shoyu ramen instead.
The chashu was nicely done and the egg and noodles were great ππΌ I felt that the broth was not as thick and flavourful as other ramen places though. Worth the calories but I will not queue for it.
Price: $15 after GST

Rainy day = Ramen π for us! Take it to another level by ordering Volcano Ramen βa signature dishβ for Kazan Karamiso $18.80. We can feel the difference both in the noodle texture & broth as one of us order just a normal Karamiso Ramen $12.80. (Better quality ingredients for Volcano Ramen except that the cabbage might be a bit much for some.) Pick volcano ramen for visual fun & when you are starving.
.
P.S. Each ramen comes with free boil egg. Be prepared to queue for 10 mins or more during peak hour.
very well marinated and flavorful chashu that had a good fat to meat ratio. it was melt in the mouth tender at the fatty areas and provided texture at the meaty ones!! itβs v different from the usual disc-like chashu, more like chinese style braised pork!! they were also pretty generous w 5 decent slabs of chashu for $17.80 :~) v reasonable since they have free flow hard boiled eggs too heh
also loved that the broth was tasty but not overwhelmingly rich + the noodles were thin and springy!! π€€ the ramen egg was also soft and oozy
