Generally I would say that the standard of food at Tokyo Joe is average. Tried the signature joe maki for the first time other than trying their donburis. Rice was soft and chewy, wrapping the tempura prawn in it. Topped with torched salmon slices, finished off with mentaiko sauce and flying fish roe. Though being a seafood sushi roll, it was not fishy. However the size of each maki piece was a little small, and for the same price, thereβs probably other bigger and more flavourful maki rolls offered elsewhere.
Came here for Burpple beyond 1-1 deal after reading the reviews. Was however disappointed to know that all beef and unagi bowls are no longer included in the deal. Both salmon chirashi & salmon teriyaki don were not very impressive but might come back again to try the wagyu bowls
Ordered the version without truffle. Since their barachirashi fish-to-rice ratio tends to be inconsistent, I'd recommend having this at Tokyo Joe instead. Slivers of beef were nothing much to shout about, but on a whole still pretty tasty with the sweetish sauce.
There was a good variety of salmon, tuna and yellowtail sashimi, mixed with sweet tamago. Only part I canβt decide on was the rice, which had a peppery taste though I would have preferred some nice vinegary sushi rice βΉοΈβΉοΈ But still, well worth with the 1-for-1 deal! ππ
This delicious bowl of goodness came with thin beef slices slathered in just the right amount of sauce and onions ππ It could have done with a bit more mushrooms, but the onsen egg on top of the teriyaki sauce was just nice in a 1:1 ratio. With a refreshing kick of ginger and sweet tamago on the side, this was extremely well worth especially with the 1-for-1! Truffle taste was indistinct and the Wagyu Don without the truffle is $3 cheaper and just as satisfying ππ Portion was generous too and 10/10 would recommend to give this a try! π―π―
With the burpple beyond 141 promo, this was just $8.50! It wasnβt mind blowing but for this price point, I thought it was a rather decent bowl of chirashi with 3 types of fish and tamago. I may not come back without the promo though as it was rather small.
Tokyo Joe is conveniently located just a few minutes walk away from Kent Ridge MRT so for anyone working at NUH/studying at NUS with a sashimi craving (like meeee), feel free to hit it up π
