Cant get more old school than this
Tian Tian was established since 1951 along smith street and is one of the oldest surviving stalls in the Chinatown complex market . Helmed by the second generation owners whom are in their 80s - this stall ( And Tian Tian porridge next door ) is a spot where you will see many regulars coming back for ( most have been eating here as children ).
There’s nothing to shout about these lean pieces of thin red and sweet char Siew ( which I unfortunately have a unique liking for ) nor its seemingly simple sauce.
But when you mix everything - the homemade chilli , secret sauce , QQ noodles and juicy mini wantons just creates such a harmonious taste .
It’s really how wanton mee used to taste in the good old days .
So affordably priced at 3.00
Decided to try their hor fun and it was delicious, with generous amount of chicken, mushroom and vegetables. $3
This wanton Mee reminds me of my younger days when my mum would buy my sister and I wanton noodles during our weekly visit to our grandparent’s home .
Nothing spectacular but its just the sincerity that has gone behind preparing this . This stall and the stall next to it ( Tian Tian porridge ) is run by a passionate group of elderlys.
The chilli is lovely - because instead of sambal which most wanton mees are served with these days - they use a slightly more savoury type of chilli with a hint of vinegar .
At 2.50, this is such an affordable lunch.
Tian Tian Noodle House sell very cheap wanton noodle here starting from only $2.50.
Wanton mee; my go-to comfort food. This time i’m featuring an old school wanton mee found at one of my favourite hawker centre.
The wanton noodles here has that 古早味 (nostalgic taste) which is getting harder to find these days. It may not be the best i’ve tried, but certainly one that i’ll return frequently for.
