Another gem at Tekka is the Old Amoy Chendol chain of stalls, where quality imported and housemade ingredients lend themselves to one of the better chendols out there.
-
The Japanese adzuki beans stewed in Indonesian palm sugar are a cut above your normal red beans, being sweeter and softer, and the hand extruded pandan "jelly" worms have that reassuringly distinctive pale green colour that tells me its hand made. The shaved ice is powdery and fine, almost like snow, and when drenched in their charcoal-fired gula melaka and cold-pressed coconut milk, a refreshing balm against Singapore's warm weather.

Indian style herbal mutton soup, dipped with crispy bread. Chendol drink rich in coconut

There is an enjoyable appeal for freshly made bread, hot off the oven. This near universal appeal is the reason why this stall draws a queue at meal times.
.
Hot off the grill after some quick tossing, their fresh unleavened flatbread chapati has a fine grainy surface from a dusting of wheat flour, and a tender chewy feel.
.
Has a slight smoky aroma with grainy savoury sweet bready flavour. A side of juicy cucumbers lend a refreshing vegetal sweet flavour contrast, while a minced coriander pesto lends a bright vegetal herbal bitter sweet flavour.

Beside the famous prawn noodle here, there’s another stall in the centre of the food centre.

Jasmine Pork Rib Prawn Noodle serve a more choices, which also old school style.

Sadly when I came they already sold out their pork ribs so I gotten the normal one.

The soup was tasty and balance, definitely a good prawn noodle I have here.

Tekka (aka Zhujiao or KK market) is a Singapore institution. It is a wet market where you can buy meat, vegs and fresh fruit at a fraction of prices at Huber’s Butcher or Cold Storage. In fact, there are wives of billionaires who still shop here. It is also a huge and diverse hawker centre, with the highest number of South Asian stalls in Singapore - North Indian, South Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and probably SriLankan too if you look hard. You will also find many Chinese (chicken rice, bak chor mee, etc) and Malay stalls. In the old days, there was a slaughterhouse here (hence the name of the Buffalo Road). Maybe Tekka should have a stall selling buffalo Bistecca?
