My favourite place for mooncakes in Singapore! No gimmicks or wacky flavours.
Their rendition of the mixed nut mooncake one is the one that made me discover my love for such mooncakes. It was filled with nuts, had a nice orange peel taste, and not too sweet. The candied orange peel was really good - it provides that sweet + bitter flavour profile.
For the lotus snowskin, the yolk wasn’t v salty, which is great. The highlight is the snowskin, which was soft and have the hk style banana cake fragrance! The lotus paste within has some nuts (peanut I think?) which gave it more dimension in terms of flavour. Delicious!
The white lotus baked mooncake was great as well, nothing to nitpick about. There were pine nuts in it which gave some crunch. These are great mooncakes to have for Mid-Autumn Festival!
This was not bad. Not very sweet, and the paste was thick and abundant. Good for red bean lovers.
A huge biscuit containing lotus seed pastry. Similar to moon cakes but with flaky biscuity crust. The lotus seed paste was very sweet. I prefer red bean paste.
I grabbed this as an afterthot, but it turned out to be my favorite from Tai Thong. They were spicy, crispy with a strong hebi hiam taste. My usual from Bengawan Solo were not spicy enough for me and I’ve always been on the hunt for a good substitute. I found it! Finished half a tub in one sitting. I need to go back and buy more.
I dunno why these are called love letters when the Chinese name is just egg rolls. I usually buy from Bengawan Solo but this year, hubby insists on buying from Tai Thong cos he ate some last year in his office and fell in love. So we trekked all the way to Chinatown to get this.
It was not bad. On the sweet side. Can taste the coconut. Very fragrant. A bit unfair for me to comment cos I’m not a fan of Love letters. Hubby enjoyed munching on them straight from the tin, which was a good way for them to lose their crispness within a week. I didn’t have that problem with BS. We finished a tin in 5 days. Luckily I bought 10.
