Sliced Lean Meat Soup | $7.80 Stumbled upon a Founder’s Bak Kut Teh at Bedok Marketplace which I never knew was there. On a weekend evening, the staff had already told me that there were no more pork ribs left, so our only option was really just the sliced lean meat soup. I was pleasantly surprised by how tender the meat slices were. While I take comfort in the absence of mess considering how I did not have to handle the bones of pork ribs, I felt that I was inevitably deprived of the experience of truly eat Bak Kut Teh the way I usually do (think: very, very, messy). With that, I might have missed out on the opportunity of gnawing on a succulent, juicy, pork rib. Nonetheless, the portion and quality of the lean meat was decent. I personally felt that the soup lacked a bit of flavour. It was a bit lacklustre not just in terms of pepperiness, as well as the pork bone savouriness. To be fair to them, my experiences with BKT have always been hit & misses, particularly because certain scoops of soup are stronger in flavour than the rest, depending on whether you’re fresh from the pot or have been simmered much longer, and also, deeper into the pot. Although I have to say I was not mind blown by the soup this time, doesn’t mean I would not try it again! Would definitely love to patronise other Founder’s stand-alone stalls, as the atmosphere here isn’t the most fitting for the BKT experience.
