Black Pepper Mee Goreng. The black pepper sauce, which is made in-house, gave the noodles a savoury and peppery kick.

[Muslim-Owned] This was a tough place to find! It’s nestled in a building that has a collection of addresses that begin with Benoi Road. This was 25 Benoi Road; it was wedged deep in the Tuas industrial areas, and it took me 30 minutes of driving just to get to it. I almost gave up on finding the place tbh! 😵

The food is really value-for-money ($4.50) that’s for sure. Not too smitten by its taste, however. It’s mainly because the salted egg sauce was too watery for my liking, though I did like its amount of spiciness. 🤑 My lips felt like they were burning, but I admit I’m a little bit of a masochist when it comes to spicy food. 🤯

I guess I wouldn’t go out of my way to get this again, but I’m glad to have tried it once. Maybe opt for their zi char or their Butter Cream chicken instead! (6.9/10)

$4.50 a plate.
Full flavour spicy Mee Goreng, with few prawns and fried egg.
Really popular stall during lunch hour.

If you find yourself in the far west, here's an idea for a pocket-friendly lunch. Even though it's tucked away in an industrial estate in Joo Koon, this Muslim-owned zi char stall draws a steady queue of lunch-goers with their tasty Halal fare. Previously known as Alex, before he converted to Islam when he married his wife, stall owner Ridhuan was actually a Chinese zi char cook for many years. You won't go wrong with his bestselling Butter Cream Chicken ($4 or $4.50 with rice). Despite being slicked in a rich cream sauce aromatic with curry leaves, the chicken skin still sports a nice crackle, and the meat was very tender. Another dish to try is his signature Green Chilli Fry Rice ($4), which sees the addition of green chilli to enliven what would otherwise be regular sambal fried rice. The portion size is generous, and good to share among two small eaters.
Avg Price: $5 per person

Ridhuan's signature dish, it's a simple but staple for any zi char stall to have a good fried rice. Essentially sambal fried rice but with refreshing notes of heat from the green chilli, I'd definitely be happy to have this anytime of the day (food coma be damned)! The portion is pretty ridiculous too and I'd say more than enough for two small eaters. 😛

This zi char stall hidden away in Joo Koon's industrial area sports a steady queue of hungry lunch-goers for their tasty Halal nosh. The man behind this; Ridhuan, has been cooking Chinese zi char for years back when he was known as Alex before he converted to become a Muslim to be with his wife. ❤️

This Butter Cream Chicken is one of their best sellers and it was easy to tell why after just getting a bite in. Despite being doused in that creamy, curry leaf-kissed sauce, the chicken skin still retained a nice crisp crackle to it! The chicken was tender and the sauce was addictive despite being slightly heavy (I really shouldn't be eating all this alone 😛).
