($2.50) slightly ex but then I don't want to go beyond $3 for waffles so I just stick to usual flavour such as kaya or plain that I go for. But I usually order got filling if I'm not in mood for plain. So the waffles was slightly hard to chew thru as it's overcooked a bit but the kaya still ok and sweet as got milk and coconut aftertaste.
Always long queue so I bought $10 worth. Don't know why the flour kinda dense and moist. Tutu kueh has been like this for years now. Maybe rushing it due to the popularity causes this. Peanut and coconut were still the best. We also tried red bean, which is pricier, but it's dumb.
This is so super unique I've never seen waffles with coconut!! :O
Its such a tragedy that my gym is located at the top floor and I have to smell all the delicious food in Queensway Shopping Center just before I work out. But my curiosity was piqued by a coconut + waffle combination.
Freshly made to order, these pandan waffles were more of the thin and crispy type and was definitely less dense than I was used to. The shredded coconut flakes they used were the same as the one in their tutu kueh, infused with that sweet gula melaka which I am such a sucker for. They are super generous with it, perhaps justifying the $3 price point.
It worked surprisingly well; the pancake batter wasn't too sweet and allowed the gula melaka to sweeten up the waffle. The light pandan fragrance of the waffle and coconutty flavor went really well together. And the crispiness of it, in hindsight made the snack really light yet satiating without making me feel too bloated.
A shame. The standards of tutu kueh - at pasar malam - have dropped since my younger years and I was hoping a big brand could recreate that. Lau Tan did not. It's hard and the flour was overpowering, everything that bogs down pasar malam tutu kueh.
Come in set of three, $2 (sweet grated) coconut filling & $2.50 plain.
Make fresh of course.
Also known as putu piring or kue putu ayu or kue putu mangkok.
The stall here also offered peanut filling, chocolate and red bean fillings.
Ahh, good ol’ tutu kueh. Greedy me never fails to always burn my tongue on the first one. 👅 Pick from four fillings (coconut, peanut, red bean or chocolate), you can even opt for ‘kosong’ if you just love the fluffy kueh part! Personally, I’m a coconut filling kinda guy, for that sweet, gula Melaka section in the middle that goes so well with those steamed clouds of perfection. 🥥
