A very good bowl of prawn Mee. The broth is especially umami with strong taste of prawn flavour. Couple of special things about this outlet - you get a choice of mee pork mee kia on top of the usual noodles and most customers will order the dry version. For $4, you get a decent portion that comes with 2 tail on shrimps, pork slices and bean sprouts. You can add extras for additional costs.
Leave it to you to decide which version is better, soup or dry.
Went to Shunfu Market recently, and this stall caught my eye with its long lines! But waiting time wasn’t too long thankfully.
Soup was clear and tasty, felt quite light and clean - I think this isn’t suited for those who love a super rich prawn soup. This had a more old school taste to it, and the soup felt more porky than prawny. I liked it tho, it hits the spot when you want prawn mee but don’t feel like having something so heavy.
The beehoon went well with the soup, lean pork slices were rather tender, and prawns though small, were firm and sweet. There’s beansprouts and kangkong too, along with LORGE chonky pieces of crisp lard and fried shallots. I would get this again!
Quan Ann is one of the stall in Shunfu Mart which sell prawn noodle, but this one definitely look more nostalgic to me.
For $3.50, you get to choose your type of noodle in either dry or soup base.
The broth itself wasn’t that distinctive to me without adding chilli paste. The pork meat given was bigger in size, together with prawn and pork lard.
This still holds a special place in my heart.
Thick QQ kwey Teow with lots and lots and lots of fried crisp lard , wicked home made chilli , fresh prawns and lean pork.
Even when packed home - it still tastes soooo good .
One added plus point - Service is brisk and fast đź‘Ť
Excellent homemade lard and shallot oil , homemade ,sambal chilli , fresh prawns and lean pork slices .
One of the few places that use a thicker width kwey Teow which I love .
Accompanied with a tasty prawn broth .
Simple , old school but so satisfying .
I ordered the dry version Prawn Noodles $3 with chilli. Although the broth and prawns hit the right notes, I felt that the chilli was lacking in terms of fragrance as it was just spicy with no hint of sambal fragrance in it. The prawns were fresh as they were firm and sweet. As for the broth which was cooked with pork and prawns, it was tasty with a subtle umami flavour.
While this bowl of prawn noodles may not be at the forefront among the best prawn noodle stalls, it is worth a try, if you are looking for one which is old school with resemblance to home cooked food. I suspect that it would be more appreciated by the older generation, as the younger generation may not like this, as they may fancy the likes of Wah Kee Big Prawn Noodle more (big prawns, robust soup).
