@natter.sg is a fairly new waffles and ice cream joint that offers hojicha waffles, croffles and classic waffles along with a variety of gelato flavours. I liked how the waffles were crispy outside and rather light inside and the hojicha one had a rich hojicha flavour too. Some of gelato flavours (those with 2 flavours in one) did not really deliver as described but they had a smooth creamy texture and went well with the waffles too!
If thereโs one thing that will probably never go out of style, itโs matcha in its entirety. That includes houjicha as well.
When this first came to me and I got a whiff of its aroma, I immediately thought of one thing - waffle crisp cereals. The honeyed smell is somehow accentuated by the earthy, woody aroma of houjicha. Already, it was very inviting.
Taste-wise, I will admit - I could not make out the slightest tinge of houjicha. And thatโs perfectly fair, because cooking it in the form of a waffle can change the original flavour. Iโm not sure how exactly, but Iโm quite sure thereโs some food chemistry at work. ๐
Yet, I still enjoyed this. The waffle came with a delicate crisp and was chunky, moist. For perspective, it is really close to the texture of waffles youโd get at Fatcat Ice Cream Bar.
The momo sencha gelato was creamy, and had a balanced sweetness and a jab of bright, peachy flavour. I didnโt get much green tea notes though, in hindsight, which you may want to note, especially if youโre a matcha martyr. ๐ (7.4/10)
PS. I came to Natter at 4pm on a Saturday and it was still tranquil and quiet. But soon enough, it started filling up more and more seats. Sad because I wanted a peaceful dining experience hahaha. ๐ฉ

With the large number of ice cream cafes already available in Tanjong Pagar, Natter Coffee & Gelato has something special to offer. Their waffles are actually houjicha waffles ($6)! Although the houjicha taste is rather faint, it still has that earthiness from the houjicha. The waffles texture actually won us over, as it was crispy outside but yet fluffy and chewy inside. It's definitely a solid waffle, not those airy kind!
With the waffles we got the Houjicha and Momo Sencha Gelato ($10 total for both scoops) which complemented well with the waffles! The Houjicha was strong and smooth, not too milky and sweet. The momo sencha was refreshing!
Definitely one of the better ice cream cafes around ๐
Open till midnight on weekends, this mininalistic cafe serves artisanal gelato, waffles and pastries. Joining the ranks of famous gelato spots Apiary, COTTA, Birds of Paradise, @natter.sg soft launched in April๐ฆ
We tried these gelato flavours, ordered in terms of increasing intensity...

A mix of Japanese sencha tea and white peach, the light floral sweetness is well-balanced and pleasantly refreshing. No wonder this is one of their best sellers! ๐ธ๐ต

Another crowd favourite, the rich nutty gelato comes with chunky bits of pistachio nut for an added texture.

We visited on a Friday evening and the place was quite packed. If you're willing to takeaway, the wait time is much shorter!
Would revisit ๐โจ
Headed over for desserts after our meal just a few shops away ๐ด
The ๐๐ผ๐บ๐ฎ ($5) ๐ค flavour has a strong robust black sesame taste accompanied by intense fragrance. Overall, I am quite impressed by the gelato flavours offered and friendly staff at this new spot. The waffles smelt good but we were too full to try ๐ฉ For those with a sweet tooth, try the Korean sweet rice (sikhye) flavour!
