If there was one downfall to Eggslut, it was in their precarious mismanagement in balancing flavours. The ๐๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป, ๐๐ด๐ด & ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ ($12) was a promising ensemble with heady doses of bacon smokiness but a superfluous flood of ketchup obscured most of the other ingredients in the mix.

Another over-hyped international brand opening to big fanfare but can't live up to the billing... Is what I'd like to say but as flawed as Eggslut was, I'd say I was surprised that it exceeded my (admittedly low) expectations and provided tons of salacious egg porn.
In principle, I find it slightly suspect to have to shell out such sums for egg sandwiches, all while also queueing 1 hour for it. But with the queues dying it's worth going for the novelty and to judge for yourself โ I actually think they nailed many areas of texture in their burgers.
For one, I thought the ๐๐ฎ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ 's ($12) titillating mound of messy scrambled eggs was soft and silky while the buns were dreamily fluffy and cloud-like. In consideration of their add-on ๐๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ณ ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐๐๐ ($4), as much as it was juicy, it also severely lacked the flavour to justify the price tag.

There's something to be said about timeless classics. And their ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐๐๐ ๐บ๐ฒ๐น๐ ($30) is a true banger. I've been here thrice just for this, and it's facing impending doom with their upcoming menu change on 21st September so grab this while you can!
-
A simple but effective ensemble โ dreamily rich gribiche sauce, sweet tangy ketchup, and a westholme wagyu patty bursting with umami. All encased within buttery milk bread buns that shattered thunderously. Music to my ears.
-
Facets of flavours weaved in and out on the palate, akin to bows deftly slicing against violin strings to a ferverous concerto of Vivaldi. Fiercely and urgently, it crescendoed into an intense rouse of decadence.

Imagine the heartbreak of being ghosted by the ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ด๐ต ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฎ๐ฏ sandwich you'd ever had (it's being removed from their menu on 21st). This ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐๐๐ ๐บ๐ฒ๐น๐ ($26) cost a pretty penny, but I'd brazenly proclaim it as the best in Singapore.
-
I still remember my first time, as will I my last. Those perfectly buttered and crispy buns entering my mouth. The mingling of my saliva with the sensual juices from the succulent beef patty. And the magical blend of sauces that brought a different richness to complement the decadent flavours, but also a balancing sweetness and zestiness โ no other has made me swoon like this.
-
Maybe we should learn to move on from heartbreak โ I'm young with a long road ahead of me! On the other hand โ someone hold me, I'm afraid of change. ๐๐๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ผ๐๐๐น๐, go try it if you haven't or you'd ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ด๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ it.

The key ingredient, the bagels, were the right amounts of dense, chewy and crusty. The luscious beef was inspiredly complemented by a nice earthiness from the shitake and ginger scallion chimchurri sauce. Whilst doneness was good, the steak was a bit too chewy at some parts. But still, it's easy to see where their hype came from.
This collab sandwich from Le Bon Funk was a delight, with a mound of crazily tender and savoury beef tongue, all cloaked in a herby Gibriche sauce (sort of like an egg-mayo salad sauce). The multitude of ingredients in the complex concoction and the beef tongue cumulated into an explosion of fascinating flavours and textures.
The layers of crunchy cornflake-crusted chocolate and milk bread acted like a geyser of thick peanut butter and berry jam. It was brimming with richness and sweetness- simply sinful. Yet. So. Utterly. Satisfying.
-
Its status as a "breakfast sandwich" is suspect though, as it is extremely heavy. I suggest sharing it (like we did with #burpplebeyond) unless you have a truly insatiable sweet tooth.
This grilled cheese sandwich with brie, cheddar and mozzarella was scrumptuously rich. For heathens that do not appreciate the glorious cheese overload, it is served with an addictively zesty tomato dip that can cut through the heartiness.
Originally situated at a more inaccessible Alexandra, this hidden gem has brought their Japanese-style sandos to the CBD at B1 of Cross Street Exchange. Right beside Ground Zero, so you can #treatyoself after hectic spin classes.

The ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ธ ๐ธ๐ฎ๐๐๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ต ($10) featured a pristinely crispy panko crust, which encased a succulent and bouncy patty. The caramelised onions imparted some edge to the sandwich through acidity and a controlled sweetness, which tangoed elegantly with the soft piquant notes of the tonkatsu sauce. A mix of light crisp and softness from the buttery buns was the perfect finishing touch to an enjoyable sandwich.
-
Not quite toppling Park Bench Deli but definitely a great, and more affordable, alternative for sandwiches โ especially when PBD gets busy during lunch.

Entering Mrs Pho I was greeted by the typical bougie crowd again, so I was spurred to try out this authentic-looking place beside, and was positively surprised!

They make their baguettes fresh in house and holy shit. That fresh crisp of the crust reverberated satisfyingly whilst the innards were, in contrast, fluffy as a pillow. With a great base like that, almost any toppings would have made a good Banh Mi.
-
That said, they outdid themselves and delivered a great ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ณ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ป๐ต ๐บ๐ถ ($10) with oodles of glorious juiciness that flooded my mouth with beefy sweetness. The cheese added some richness whilst the freshness of the coriander and chili sliced through with some bright levity. The magical part? The baguette never got soggy even through all the juice.

Their ๐ด๐ฟ๐ถ๐น๐น๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ ($8) was as delicious as it looked. The bread had a perfect crisp whilst the richness of the cheeses, with an attenuating sharpness from the cheddar, melded well with the powerful gamut of flavours from the caramelised onions.
-
The onions were the star โ soft and not fibrous, oozing a vivacious sweetness complemented by a kiss of acidity. However while I loved them, they had too much personality and dominated the palate so the cheese, while rich, was relegated to a supporting role. Great sandwich but for a ๐จ๐ณ๐ช๐ญ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฅ ๐ค๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ด๐ฆ, I would prefer more room for the cheese to shine.

I try to be bougie, but I'm not quite "frequently eating lobster" kinda level yet. Payday's here and you wanna be low key bougie too? You can get a ๐๐ผ๐ฏ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฅ๐ผ๐น๐น ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ for only $19.90, or even cheaper with Burpple Beyond or ChopeDeals โ if you can't afford lobster rolls from Raffles Hotel, this sure as hell is a good alternative.
-
Lobster lovers will be glad to know they were super generous with the meat, evident with the eye-catching chunks of claw meat โ true to their name. Succulent, bouncy and well-seasoned, the heap of crustacean flesh was even better with a big hug from buttery buns that were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
