Oishii Japanese Food 🍣
I ordered the Buta Yaki Don which consists of glazed pork belly simmered in sweet buta sauce, a delicate runny onsen egg, sprinkled with with a pinch of chili powder for a little added kick and garnished with spring onions. I love my rice to be slightly moist, so I mixed it with the broken yolk and buta sauce, making sure that each grain was coated with the sweet sauce. The flavours were really well balanced, and for the price of $12, this is 100% worth it!
The Ikura Don with Spicy Salmon ($28) contains soy edamame, that adds a green contrast to the mostly bright orange dish and a slight crunchy texture. The donburi also comprises sweet Japanese sushi rice, salmon sashimi marinated with their special in-house spicy sauce, filled with a ton of ikura and topped with dried seaweed. The creamy salmon sashimi cubes melts in the mouth, while the heat of the spicy sauce creeps on you after a few seconds, creating a buttery yet slightly fiery sensation. Needless to say, I enjoyed receiving a refreshing burst of flavour from each spoonful of ikura.⠀
Tamago En is the very definition of an egg paradise. Every dish contains eggs, from their all-day breakfasts, salad & sandwiches, donburi & omurice and desserts! Seriously subarashii!⠀
⠀
Their Chicken Stew Rice and Omelette comprises fragrant Japanese rice covered with a silky, delicate layer of creamy omelette made with eggs imported from Okinawa. The golden “tornado” omelette dome is then surrounded by demi-glaze sauce, tender chicken pieces and broccoli. Oishi~⠀
🌶I was a little apprehensive before trying the Ebi Fry Ramen. There was no doubt that it was going to be delicious, but seeing the chili icon beside its name sent shivers down my spine. Despite my regular spice tolerance “training”, I was still afraid that I was going to spend half the time choking from the spiciness. However, that was not the case!⠀
⠀
🍜Though it’s yellowish-red broth might say otherwise, the intensity was milder than what I was expecting. Don’t get me wrong! The heat was definitely there, but it was just the right level where it was pleasant to slurp down scoop after scoop of this wonderous tonkatsu soup that was made using Hajime’s secret Sakura Ebi paste.⠀
⠀
🍖The main star of the dish for me though, were the sweet, succulent pieces of Loin Rib Chashu marinated with their special recipe sauce. The tender meat was the result of hours of braising and charred to perfection before being added to the dish.⠀
⠀
🍤On the side there was also the super crispy Ebi Fried Prawn that went amazingly well with the creamy in-house tartar sauce! Did you know that they make tiny slits into the flesh to make sure that the prawns stay straight while being fried? That is some serious attention to detail!⠀
If you’re looking for an affordable way to try A4 Grade Wagyu Beef, this will definitely be within your ball park!
Right from the first bite you’d know that this is legit Wagyu beef because it’s everything you’d expect: Thick, Juicy, Buttery and has that melt in your mouth factor that we all know and love!
$16 for this kind of experience would be money well spent! Especially when you can enjoy it along the scenic Boat Quay. They also have a variety of other delicious burgers if you’re feeling adventurous!
If you’re looking for the personal food challenge, you’ve gotta give this a try!
⠀
Think Ice Kachang but with Sashimi, this giant beauty was carefully sculpted using a wide variety of cubed fresh sashimi, sweet Japanese rice and the “cherry” on top: uni and ikura! And of course you can’t have this much sashimi without having a large slab of wasabi piled on behind just out of sight. 😉⠀
⠀
How do you eat this you ask? It comes with a second bowl to make the job easier, although I felt like I was playing a food version of Jenga while trying to meticulously remove layers of it without my precious sashimi toppling onto the table. 😂⠀
⠀
And if you’re a rice lover like myself, you would never have to worry about not having enough rice in this bowl!
Oh! And be sure to book a reservation in advance because you can expect a long queue especially during peak hours! Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
My type of Chirashi bowl, piled all the way with fresh sashimi cubes, cucumber, ikura and scallops! Very tasty and very affordable! I bought the large size for $19.90.
🍚 Ordered the Sashimi Rice Bowl, which was topped with generous amounts of fresh sashimi, complimented with sweet wasabi. After finishing the sashimi, a bowl of hot seafood broth 🍲 to add a different experience to the leftover rice. They also offer a 🥂 free drink or dessert with every main. This promotion ends this February! So you got one day left to enjoy this promotion! I picked the 🍵 Matcha Ice-Cream and it was one of the best things to end a fabulous meal with. Not too strong and slightly milky, without losing the fragrance of matcha. Perfect!

I was presented with huge 300g Nagano pork tomahawk, which was covered with black and golden truffle sauce. The sweet sauce paired really well with the meat, and I always love their signature mixed rice that’s in all their dons. I want to head back down to try their “Black Gold Double Prosperity Don” before I go back to Australia. It has both prime short rib and Nagano pork belly! 🤤

✔️Broth a little salty but tasty. ✔️Egg yolk that “explodes” when you bite into it.
What more can I ask from a bowl of steaming ramen? I had trouble choosing which ramen to order, but I chose the Tori Shoyu Special since it’s the “Store Exclusive”, which means that they only have that at certain outlets right? 🤗

Literally every bite took me to the sea and back and every scoop was a different experience. The sweetness of the fish was so soothing. I also love their signature mixed rice underneath as it complements the seafood very well. If you’re a big fan of salmon sashimi 🍣, the Salmon Kaisen is just filled with salmon! The food arrives relatively quickly. I heard their beef dons are really good, so I will definitely go back to try out their other dishes.

🥚 Looking at the chefs pour the luscious, gleaming egg from the glass window got me so excited. 🤤 Not only does it taste good, but it’s very affordable! For only $12.90, you can get the Omurice, a choice of salad, and a choice of spaghetti. 🍝 The upsize from regular to large is also free! Then if you’d like, you can order their special cheese sauce which they would prepare at your table consisting of 3 different types of cheese 🧀 for $2. I also decided to go ahead and order their Chicken Teriyaki Hamburg for $3, which was a little tiny, but the portion for the Omurice and pasta was a lot! I actually struggled to finish it near the end. 🍅 The taste of the tomato rice was not overpowering. Even my friend who hates tomato said he wasn’t affected by it at all. And like all Keisuke, there’s also free flow of beansprouts. They made it very easy to order as it has a layout of a mind-map for you to fill. This is the closest thing you can get to the Omurice you always see from Japan. (Unless you came across a better one, then do share with me because I want to try it! 🤗)

🚶🏻♂️Queuing: I was a bit skeptical when I heard people queuing for 3.5 hours. However, when I reached there at around 6.10pm, I was at the 2.5 hour mark of the queue. Yes, they place markers along the queue stating the various wait times. Fortunately I only waited 1.5 hours instead, which was still pretty long. It’s probably due to the fact that the outlet is really small (22 seats) and it only opened on 14 Jan. If you’d ask me whether or not I’d queue for it for that long a period, I’d probably wait till the hype goes down before going another time. But if it’s your first time and you really wanna go for it, do it!
