A newly opened stall in koufu selling a variety of rice bowls (hence their apt name of "Rice Bowl"🀣)

Went for their vegetarian option of braised tofu with an assortment of asian greens and mushrooms. The portion sizes are generous. The dine in bowl that the food is served in is huge, and even the paper takeaway bowl was taller and larger than usual.

The tofu was more like tau kwa actually, with the thick, fried exterior and firm interior. It didn't come in small cubes as i'd anticipated, but rather as one single, huge slab sitting atop the bowl of rice (it literally covered everything else below it lol) I loved the sauce that came with all the greens though. They helped to make the entire rice bowl less plain, and had a rather comforting and familiar "homey" flavour to it.

I saw another person ordering the braised beef option and it looked quite good, the serving of meat not being skimped on at all. Perhaps i'd try that next😊

Nihon Mura would probably not make it onto your list of options if you are at the cathay and looking for a more budget-friendly option. However, they have a newly launched sumiyaki series of donburis which i personally find super worth!

Didn't quite have confidence in the portion size but when it came i was legitly surprised. Portion of rice and meat was just nice for a meal to fill you up, and there was even side salad and onsen tamago.

Food quality wise was also surprisingly good. The chicken was tender and had a nice charcoal grill, smokey fragrance. The fat pearls of white rice were distinct, not too mushy nor dry, and were well flavoured with donburi sauce.

Prices starts from just $5.50 (coming to perhaps $6.50 after gst and svc charges) for their chicken/pork sumiyaki bowl, $6.80 for salmon and $7.80 for the beef. For the indecisive, they also have super value-for-money double protein options too.

Then again, even if it wasn't, you'll definitely get your burst of flavour from the amount of sauce... Tbh wouldn't have finished this dish if it didn't cost me $12.80😢

The salmon-only chirashi don seemed to have increased in price since my previous visit?πŸ€” Bee quite some time since i paid kogane yama a visit and the standards seemed to have dropped. I remember my bowl being filled generously with cubes of salmon, but this time, it was just the amount of rice that was insane. Especially since it was sushi rice so everything was just clumped together and compact. Hardly enough sashimi to go with all that rice. It was okay for me because i'm a rice bucket.. if not, i think the restaurant's just wasting the rice seriously.

I went for the Asian bowl, which I felt was quite refreshing. The Japanese influence is pretty obvious in this, the bowl coming with edamames, cucumbers and even pickled ginger, all of which helped to provide bursts of flavours and a nice crunch. If you don't fancy overly marinated salmon, I think the salmon would suit your palate. However, the dish can get abit salty especially towards the end if you don't mix it well enough because they put quite a fair amount of sauce in your bowl. .

The bowl comes with a base of white rice, which was rather substantial. However, the rice was a little too mushy/sticky for my liking, and i do wish that they had other options such as brown/red rice, which is a common offering to be found at other poke shops. They do have quinoa though!

Of these, the more notable deviations from their usual bowls includes the tilefish, white asparagus, pickled sakura leaf and even tamagoyaki!

Of the various ingredients, my favourite would definitely be the tamagoyaki, having a nice thinly battered crisp outer layer with a soft and fluffy interior. The tilefish was a little too fishy for my liking though. Its actually fried with all its skin and scales still intact,unlike your usual fillets.
I had found the amount of mentaiko mayo drizzled over my bowl to be too little as I could barely taste it, but luckily, the staff there kindly acceded to my request for more mentaiko sauce to be served!

They have an extensive choice of rice bowls, mains, pastas etc and the set lunch here is super value-for-money. Just topup $2 for a drink and a cream puff!

The portion size for this rice bowl wasn't the largest, but it was filling enough, and tasty too. Theres a taste of home to it-not in a cheap, bad way though. More of a comforting and wholesome way-like your mom who's culinary skills are commendable.

A mixture of grains is used, and i liked texture of the rice, which was not too over/undercooked. The slices of char siew were tender and flavourful that leaves one wanting more!

Super affordable haunt with no service charge or gst. The prices here are reasonable, especially with the standards of service and the quality of food served. When I was there, one lady was dissatisfied with the food served to her, and they kindly gave her a replacement immediately.

While the salmon wasn't too overly cooked, it was a tad fishy! Loved the crispy fried wanton skins that garnished the dish, but perhaps I made a mistake of mixing them in together because that made it lose the crunch πŸ˜…

Another thing would be that they were kind of heavy handed with the gochujang sauce, so the flavour was kind of overwhelming. This is especially given that there wasn't much rice so the ratio is rather off.
Would have preferred for the sauce to be served at the side; which is pretty much what was done for previous bibimbaps i've tried, so that i can control the amount of sauce that goes in my dish!

One thing i realised i that portion sizes run pretty small, especially given the steep prices, but i guess that just means you'll have room for desserts; which seem to fair better than their mains;imo.

However, I was pleasantly surprised by the slab of salmon fillet that had a crisp exterior yet retaining a delightfully pink and tender interior.
The rice on its own is strongly flavoured with salt, though they might have been a little too heavy handedπŸ˜… I really liked the caramelised onions and pickles which added the sweetness and tanginess to balance out the saltiness of the rice. However, I felt that they could have given more of the ingredients to go with the rice which was quite a huge portion!

Had tried the Mentaiko Salmon too but I personally prefer this!

The slab of salmon was THICK and substantial. The salmon was seriously seared to perfection too, with an exterior so crisp but the interior was so tender and perfectly flakey. Thumbs up to their chef for cooking such a good salmon πŸ˜‚πŸ’― Their rice isn't really flavoured by the way, but the rice bowl does come with a dollop of mayo(?) which you can mix it if you don't quite fancy your rice plain.
