Ban Chan so good you can eat it on its own
And yes they are free flow side dishes !
1. Kim Chi
2. Potato salad
3. Ikan billis
4. Bean sprouts ( yes the large Korean style ones)
5. Chilli cucumber
6. Stewed cabbage
7. Fishcakes
8. Stewed brinjal in sweet gravy
9. Roasted seaweed
10. Boiled spinach with sesame oil
11. Seasoned mushrooms
12. Egg and ham pancake ( aka frittata in western terms )
Just with the variety and quality of the ban Chan that this family style Korean restaurant serves - I Guess little needs to be said about their main courses . Just the ban Chan alone is worthwhile for anyone to make a trip down . Who cares about the main course hahah?
12 different ban Chans all with distinctively different flavours and textures . This was really the highlight of the evening for me .
Special mention needs to be made of the potato salad which was purƩed till so smooth and creamy ( without being cloying) and had little surprises of crisp apples within - this was surprisingly very light on the palate.
There was this pan fried egg layered with ham ban Chan that almost looked like an egg frittata that tasted so good .
The home made Kim Chi and bean sprouts were also very well prepared.
The rendition of ikan billis here was by far one of the best I have eaten across all Korean restaurants so far. Think high quality crisp ikan billis well seasoned ( without being overly salty or sweet ) and a little spicy , this was so addictive .
And yes - the main courses were also good and very value for money .
This must be the best kept secret at Lorong kilat .
Despite the healthy take on ice cream, it was still yummy and I loved the pistachio flavour for its richness and natural nutty taste + the crushed bits of pistachio that added crunch to the smooth scoop. If you're wondering, the ice cream is made with organic brown rice milk & evaporated cane juice - cheers to healthy guilt-free desserts š

Brewed using a custom blend of beans roasted by Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee, the White was smooth and creamy with a light body and a nutty flavour profile. Pretty soothing for the mid-day cuppa.
If it's steak you're in the mood for, this cosy 10-seater spot in Serene Centre (it shares the space with Sugarhaus) is perfect for the whole steakhouse experience at budget-friendly prices. It's certainly found a fan in Burpple Tastemaker Emily S, who has raving reviews of the meat. There are only two steaks on the menu ā the Flat Iron ($22), which is leaner and offers great bite, and the Short Rib ($25), which has lovely marbling and a more decadent mouthfeel. The steaks arrive well seasoned, which warrants the acompanying chimichurri unnecessary, alongside a little bowl of house salad tossed in vinaigrette. Sides are priced at an additional $5 each, but worth the splurge. Consider the juicy Sauteed Thyme Mushrooms ($5) or luscious Guanciale Mac & Cheese ($5). Desserts still aren't stellar, so save your money for something else.
Avg Price: $25 per person

The full range of ice cream flavours: Dark Chocolate, Vanilla, Sea Salt Caramel, Honey Lavender, Rock Melon Sorbet. Unfortunately, you can't order ice cream & "add on" a plain Homemade Buttermilk Waffle here, so we decided to go with something off their default waffle menu.
"Honey B" is the cheapest of the lot at $11, with a scoop of Sea Salt Caramel ice cream. You can swap the ice cream flavour to something else at no additional cost, which is what we did. Opted for the Dark Chocolate & Honey Lavender (additional $3 extra for the 2nd scoop). The latter was my favourite out of the 2, even though the bright purple hues scared me a little. The ice cream wasn't too sweet, & the lavender was quite strong. Mm mmmm, good. The Dark Chocolate wasn't terrible, just not as rich as I would've hoped for it to be.
Back to the Waffle Ding Dongs: Honey B comes with butter & whipped cream, which I conveniently swept to the side because that's not how I roll. Waffles were drizzled with honey, & the biscuit crunch was in a generous pile on the side.
The actual waffles themselves, oh boy. I've read some reviews that the waffles are too crispy for their liking, but TO EACH HIS OWN. I actually really freaking love them for being this way! They are so crispy on the outside, yet fluffy & fairly dense on the inside.
There is an option to add caramelised banana to the works (additional $1.50) but I dislike bananas with a passion so.... Nope.
Overall, this surprised me very much & I will return here to try their other dishes. Catfeine doesn't only serve desserts & coffee, but some brunch fare as well. Quite promising!

Never imagine a signature Singapore dish be served up by a Japanese operating this stall at a HDB coffeeshop. Story has it of him giving up his finance background job and left Japan for Singapore. Mastering the art of Mee Pok from the original Ah Hoe himself. I am say I am truly impressed with the flavor and all aspects of this simple dish! Adding a Japanese twist when you stand in line and watch him placing the noodles, toppings like a ramen stall in Japan. This is a must try stall!!! Close every Sunday. Yumminess 4.5/5
š They say there are much better ones but I would have this one anyday. Wash it down with the avocado smoothie from the juice stall next to it, ahhh perfecto š

His loss is my gain as they now only operate at Pasir Panjang, which is near to my workplace. I didn't know about his place until he mentioned (or kpkb) it.
There are many types of Briyani and each city in India and Pakistan have their own version of briyani. This is Pakistani (Peshawar) version. No achar, instead they serve a delightful raita and curry to go with it. The rice is good, loads of spices but not overwhelming.
This is only $5! I should have turned the chicken over to show that it's the breast plus wing. This is how it was served, so I let it be. Slurp!! A note of caution : beware of the cardamom! Don't bite into it! Eat slowly!
So I decided to venture on my own and sacrificing my dinner to hunt down the better food places.

Turned into this place after dropping a sweet & cheerful air stewardess. Decided to try this roast meat joint and to my surprise the sio bak's fats melted in my mouth while the skin was crunchy. Roasted duck was good too but char siew was a little too hard. Overall pretty good!

The cream cakes are good & cheap! Ranging from $2-4 with many varieties to choose from. So quaint that the price tags are all still handwritten.

Pork lard oil, LOTS of it, is used to fry this plate of "wok hei"-perfumed Penang Char Koay Teow. Seriously, how can other cooking oils even begin to compare?! Like duh š
