Afternoon Delights

Despite the healthy take on ice cream, it was still yummy and I loved the pistachio flavour for its richness and natural nutty taste + the crushed bits of pistachio that added crunch to the smooth scoop. If you're wondering, the ice cream is made with organic brown rice milk & evaporated cane juice - cheers to healthy guilt-free desserts 🎉

At only S$11.50 before taxes, it includes 2 amazing scones served with butter, homemade cream and strawberry preserve, finger sandwiches, a slice of cake and coffee/pot of tea.

In the many times I've visited, their scones remain consistently good; warm, crunchy outside and fluffy inside. I also like that the scones are not flavored or added with ingredients like chocolate, blueberries or raisins. To me, scones are best to be plain so that they can be properly enjoyed with dollops of homemade cream and strawberry preserve.

And in my recent visit, I was happy to note that Fosters has finally replaced the fruit cake (not my kind of cake) to light cheese cake (totally my kind of cake)! No promises that the fruit cake will not make a return but let's enjoy the cheese cake while it lasts! They have also changed the ham sandwich to tomato ones, making this a vegetarian-friendly afternoon tea set.

Wondered how the ang gu kueh were made since they were pretty tiny. Fitted nicely for a mouthful. So delicate. The mould must be pretty small.

D9 Cakery at Hilton Singapore @hilton.singapore has revamped its Saturday High Tea Buffet, with their best homemade patisserie items, added with local food "live kitchens". Priced from $41++ per person, this is quite value for the money for the spread.

The tiered spread is refillable and there is also a mini buffet table for mushroom cream penne, truffle oil scrambled egg sandwiches and scones... You may order as many types of tea or coffee from the range during your sitting.

The crust on the lemon and sea salt dark chocolate tarts initially given was already soft but the courteous staff got them replaced with slightly fresher ones when we pointed them out to our waitress... #throwback #burpple

Thanks to Tastemaker Xing Wei (as usual, First-On-Scene), we found out about this new spot along Duxton with super funky vibes! 😎

Sporting a simple menu of coffee, breads and pastries, we were impressed with the awesome sourdough and spreads that we tried. Light, crisp and fluffy, the lemon curd on top of cream cheese won us over when compared to the pricier avocado version ($9.50).

Now, I just need to wait for them to get the wifi fixed up and it'll be the perfect place for a chill, out-of-office day! 🙌

I probably would just call it 大麥 because that's the name I grew up knowing. Quite a surprising find at Commonwealth Crescent Market & Food Centre — an increasingly hard-to-find local dessert these days. From Xi Le Ting 喜樂亭, on first look it does seem a tad watered down, though I thought the sweetness was actually just right without being too bland. The wheat pearls come with a nice chewy bite, almost akin to having sago, though I would really wish for some coconut milk for a silkier and aromatic feel and taste. Still, it's pretty much a rare find, and this is one that I find made pretty well especially with its rarity these days. Very affordable at $0.80 for a bowl too!

Add some olive oil! It was very very tasty but a little too smooth for me (I’m a crunchy peanut butter girl)

I wanted to get the hummus special for $13 recommended by fellow burpplers but that’s only offered if the tables are available (note only 2 two seaters are provided outside the shop)

Though it was challenging having to select only a couple of mini entremets from Nesuto's entire showcase, their version of a BlackForest was the best tasting one from our loot.

Chocolate Marquise Sponge, 64% Valrhona Dark Chocolate Mousse, Vanilla Namelaka, Kirsh Cherry and Morello Cherry Compote. Four varying textures coming together harmoniously.
Pair this with their Peach Oolong tea [9bucks/pot] for a great afternoon treat.

Shortcrust pastry ✔️, but even better is how deep the tart base is, which means a super generous egg filling as well. Officially my fav egg tart in SG 😋

Enjoying mornings like this. And the kueh dar-dar was so good. Soft skin encasing fresh white grated coconut with just a little gula melaka. Very well balanced so it's aren't too sweet.

The pastry was too hard to cut into, but the the zesty lemon curd paired with chantilly cream were the stars of the dish. My basil tastebuds have been spoilt by #bopgelato, but otherwise a decent rendition of basil ice-cream. #thisCuriousCraving #epicuration #burpple
