The grilled chicken thigh was tender and succulent, further enhanced by a top layer of melted mozzarella that was thick and gooey. The kimchi added a tangy note with a lingering spiciness which was also crunchy and refreshing! The gouchujang sauce also added a sweet-spicy flavourful note to the plain white rice. Unfortunately, the onsen egg that was supposedly included in this rice bowl was absent 😢 Thank god I managed to obtain it as a separate side upon request! 🙏🏻One of the essentials in my daily diet- the soft, fragile and runny yolk was a pleasant feast for the sight and sense, providing some moisture and flavours to the white rice as well! Portion is satisfying and filling for one, though I must admit the price is pretty steep for a rice bowl. Really adore the minimalistic, sleek interior of the cafe that's welcoming and spacious (but not if you visit during the peak hours with office lunch crowd 12-2pm)! .

Tame your next sweet craving at this quaint new cafe in Serangoon (it's down the road from Cafe Plain Jane). KOOKS Creamery specialises in molten lava cookies ($5.50 each) — soft-centred cookies holding luscious, oozy centre. Their hand-crafted ice cream (from $3.60 a scoop) is pretty good too! For best value, get the Lava Cookie Set ($8.50), which sees either a chocolate or matcha lava cookie topped with a scoop of ice cream. Get creative with pairing ice cream flavours, or be inspired by Burpplers who seem to love pairing the cookies with nougat, Ferroro Rocher and lemon curd ice cream. Yum!

Situated on the third floor of Wisma Atria, Picnic is a Marché-like place great for catching up with friends over a meal in a picturesque setting. The sprawling space resembles a picnic in the park, with astro-turf lining the floor, food truck setups and floor-to-ceiling man-made trees with draping vines. At the entrance, you’ll be presented with a buzzer — hold on to this because it is what you will use to order your food from the various food trucks. There’s a wide variety of items offered here, so even the pickiest eater will find something to eat! Head straight for the Pizza and Pasta Food Truck and order the value for money Seafood Pizza ($15). It comes generously topped with shrimp and squid, and is great for sharing among four. Skip the tempting rosti and stick to the crowd pleasing Beer-Battered Fish and Chips ($15) instead — opt for truffle fries as your side at no extra charge!
Avg Price: $15 per person

Ever since Matchaya, every trip to Tanjong Pagar ends on a sweet note with one of their soft serves. Gorgeously bittersweet, I loved the intensity of matcha flavours here in its thick, fragrant creamy swirls. Have never yet been disappointed with Matchaya's offerings thus far and can't wait for even more flavours to be introduced!

One of my favourites at Japan Foods Garden is this steamed box of goodness from Akasaka Yukun. A bed of seasoned rice is topped with shredded egg and lined nicely with sliced eel. The glaze applied to the eel before steaming, gives it a sweet note and everything is just so simple yet tasty. If you've got a bigger appetite, they have a 2-layer option for this Unagi Seiro Mushi, but I say check out the other options available at Japan Foods Garden too. 😋

I'm sure you've all seen this many times but this creation from Ninja Cut deserves the praise! 🙌
What I really love about this was the myriad of textures involved! There's the molten action from the matcha hotcake itself, crunchy speculoos crumble, chewy dango, sugared yuzu peel, azuki and topped off with ricotta cheese! 😳Whew, sounds like a lot of different things, but it all came together wonderfully. Yummo 👅💦💦💦
