Keong Saik
Knowing 1KS’ started by the folks behind PBD meant high expectations, but man I did not expect their Short Rib Swiss to be quite as shiok as this. The same crusty bread, savoury and tender braised short rib, a mellow mustard aioli, and daaaamn those earthy sautéed shrooms and cheddar 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 It’s like he heartiest beef stew jam-packed into a sandwich.
Wanted to try the frittatas too, but it's not available on weekends!
There are a lot of ingredients in the sandwich, and luckily they do work well together and nothing overpowers. I like the crusty bread! The salad came quite heavily doused in lemon juice, but I quite like it this way 😁
P.S. I'm quite sad at the close of The Daily Roundup! Always wanted to go back for the crepes with yuzu butter 😔
First, lemme get it out of the way that this place sells a glass of wine (red/white/moscato) at a cray cray price of $6! 🍷Seriously??? And the food? Ridiculous value too for the portions they hand out.
This mountain of mussels is half off on Mondays and while not the freshest available (can't beat SUP's rendition), the quantity and quality far surpassed expectations. You can also add pasta to this for $3, making it a super filling meal on its own. The chef uses flavours I particularly enjoy too, with copious amounts of coriander, chilli and other Asian influences. Deffo will be back! 😝
I missed you so big prawn ee mian from Kok Sen! My ex department used to visit this restaurant for our annual Chinese New Year dinner or departmental dinner. Expect a long queue starting after 6.30pm, thus do come early or you may want to try reserving a table.
This plate of noodles is just 9 bucks and can be shared between 2pax of small eaters. A tinge of spiciness amongst the very rich prawn broth and fried shallots! Oh-so-good... Just across the street is Tong Ah whereby you can have their most talked about quite recently - French toasts & traditional toasts too!
It's good, so good that one don't have to fly all the way to the Land of the Raising Sun for your Unagi fix. 🎏
•
The Unagi here is a Steal, especially at such an Affordable Price Point. Firstly, only live eels imported from the Mikawa Isshiki region is served upon order. 🗾
Only Fresh Wasabi is served which allows one to grate their desired amount while most restaurants serve fake horseradish Sh*t with colouring. 🖕🏻 Plus there's a VAST difference between freshly grated Wasabi & the other Sh*t. •
ACAMASTIPS💮: Opt for the Counter Seats & watch Chef Nakagawa who helms the Charcoal Grilling & Cutting station, a true 職人 (Shokunin)
Order the Hitusumabushi (💵S$26.80) to be eaten in 3 ways or with Eel Liver which almost rival Foie Gras. 😋
Already planning my next visit when I book out. 🖖🏻
Quite possibly the best cocktail I've had in Singapore so far. It has not one but two kinds of coconut rum, and it tastes like a sunny day on a tropical island. 🍹
Leave it to the crew that gave us the famous Baby Huey ($18) burger to come up with Naughty Fries ($10). Imagine a heap of hand-cut chips that are fried skin-on, nestled beneath a spicy bearnaise sauce, beef chilli and parmesan — the perfect bar snack, we say! At the first international outpost of Bali's Potato Head Beach Club, expect plenty of chill out space in the four-storey building in Keong Saik, including a cosy, intimate rooftop bar that's great for kicking back with friends over Friday night cocktails. While the price point is not pocket-friendly, the excellent food, drinks and ambience make it well worth your spending.
