How to have Nasi Lemak without the Nasi??? At SG McDonald's you can! I actually enjoyed this rendition of the local fav dish; one bite of the burger ($6) and coconut aroma from the extra crispy fried chicken patty fills up your whole mouth, plus the must-have fried egg, sambal and cucumber. Kudos for the innovation, McDees! š
What a good combo of juicy meat, fluffy buttered brioche buns, melted cheese, pickles, onions and spicy mayo!! Sadly my Baby Heuy ($18) that day was waaaaay too salty, I had to drink 4-5 cups of water to rid the thirst
Went for the classic Margherita ($27) and watched the chefs kneaded, build and fire my pizza from the bar seats. Good charred crust, tangy tomato base and fresh basil leaves. Melted mozzarella gave a hint of creaminess to the overall richness. Old is gold š
Always down for a good juicy burger and double truffle shrooms ($20) did not disappoint! Patty was packed loosely for max flavors and texture. Well seasoned, blue cheese a plus point!
Sausage in brioche buns coated w maple sugar, chicken skin furikake ($6) from Bird Bird; still can't decide if I enjoyed the mixture of extreme sweet and savory for this one
Tucked along shop houses at Telok Ayer (5-10 mins walk from Tanjong Pagar or Telok Ayer MRT station), PBJ was a pleasant change to the concrete jungle w open kitchen, long communal table and groovy music. Ordered the Cured Meat Sandwich ($16); layers of salami, coppa, rosette, pancetta and fresh frisee, w mozzarella and tomato aioli spread on each side of the softest, toasted brioche bun. You get all the flavors and richness of cured meat in one single bite. This is one helluva sammich!
If you're craving for a good burger that's both authentic and unshowy, Burger Joint (arguably one of the best burgers in NYC) is the to-go-to. Place was uncrowded on a saturday evening (follow the neon burger sign!), which was welcoming. The beef patty in the bacon cheeseburger ($16.90) was moist and loosely packed, grilled to perfect medium. I liked how it was lightly seasoned w a slight chewy texture. Don't forget to pair your burger w a pint of beer (they have 18 different craft beers!!!)
