Do you guys see the amount of luscious Thai Green Tea filling pouring out of it?! INSANE. Fave part of this dessert has to be the toast though. So crispy, and totally liberal with the butter, it was super tasty, super fragrant, and super sinful. But sooooooo good. Owner Mr and Mrs Chan says the original brioche toast, which they ran out of, is crispier and their fave. I can't imagine how it can get better than this. The filling itself wasn't too bad, but much more bitter than what I expected. And it has an oddly foamy texture? Not bad, but can be improved on.
Being barely a week old, I understand how operations may not be smooth and lotsa problems may not have been ironed out; but I don't think serving a plate with watery, more-than-half-melted scoop of ice cream is acceptable. It's sloppy work. Taste-wise, the matcha ice cream wasn't too sweet and retained a little of its characteristic bitterness which we liked; toast, though unevenly buttered, was crisp and acceptably fluffy. So admittedly there is some promise here. But I can't get past that insincere melted mess.
The salted egg custard was more like our beloved liu sha, which I felt was a tad too sticky and creamy, but very delish. The toast, though fluffy and crisp in the middle, was way too hard and chewy on the edges - I felt like I was biting on tyres. And what was maple syrup doing on that? Way too jarring. Lots of promise here, and would be great with some tweaking.
Never really been to Dazzling Café despite all the hype, cause the massive dose of whipped cream always scared me. Having tried it yesterday though I'm pleasantly surprised! Their Hazelnut Toast (one of their bestsellers) saw cubes of buttered toasted bread stuffed with a dollop of chocolate spread, then topped with ice cream drenched in a torrent of luscious smooth cream. The cream isn't as gross as it sounds, instead complementing the ice cream and the crisp toast pretty well.
Huge thanks to @nessaleecm and @accesscoms for the invite, and for hosting us!
The toast is mighty fluffy and soft, only lightly buttered but undoubtedly crisp. The deal breaker though is still the stunning rich and thick dips provided. The kaya-like pandan or the fragrant Thai tea, you can't go wrong with either.
Made famous by peers like Tuk Tuk Cha, this cubed rendition of the much-loved Shibuya brick toast's actually pioneered by Loaves Me; it's now also available at their sister restaurant Cha Thai. The housemade bread is generously slathered with luscious butter, then toasted to a perfect golden crisp while retaining a fluffy and moist interior. But for me, what sets it apart is the thick Thai Milk Tea dipping sauce its served with. It's thick, rich, and maddeningly addictive!
Tucked away in the heartlands of Tampines is this tiny promising ice cream shop. We tried their signature Ferrero Rocher Toast (S$10.90), which was surprisingly delish: a well-buttered superbly crisp thick toast, topped with a scoop of decent rocher ice cream and a variety of toppings. My only peeve is the slightly off ratio of bread to ice cream, leaving us loads of bread without enough accompanying ice cream. That aside this is an amazing Shibuya Toast that'd put many cafés' renditions to shame.
Two scoops of ice cream, some azuki beans and shiratama, sitting on a cloud of pretty piped cream, atop a golden Shibuya toast. Yep it looked super good.
Unfortunately it tasted less impressive. Toast was not crisp, more chewy than fluffy, and wasn't cut well into neat cubes - we had a tough time trying to eat it. The slathering of butter was inconsistent, so some bites were yummy and others were bland. The pretty rice dumplings were also undercooked. All in all, a huge letdown.
After seeing photos by @therantingpanda, then @aroimakmak, then @sgfoodonfoot in succession, I decided it was about damn time I gave it a try. And ohmyholymama, this was mindblowingly awesome. Crisp air-fried toast, liberally slathered with fragrant salted butter, topped with a scoop of delish coconut ice cream and generous shreds of young coconut flesh. Ermagawd.
