Salads And Bowls 🍎
Been exercising a little more frequently these days so feel the need to eat clean (so as to not be counter-effective!) Glad to be at Haakon for dinner tonight for their nutritious and wholesome, yet filling bowls. Really makes eating clean a whole lot easier and yummier! I customised mine, choosing the half brown rice and salad option, and would say it’s a decent serving size. Been going meatless pretty regularly now so I opted for tofu, beetroot hummus, mushrooms and veges to fill up my bowl.
I heard good things about the salad bowls here and it did live up to my expectations 🙂 I opted for the small DIY bowl ($11.90) and I decided to go vegetarian today hence no meat. I liked that the portion of brown rice was generous and it was 100% brown. All components were flavourful and nicely done (and I particularly liked the beetroot hummus!) There was a lot of options to select from (I took a longgg time deciding) and I'll definitely see myself back here!
Found a new food gem I see myself going to. Customisable and healthy bento bowls starting from $11.95, with more uncommon and unique options like truffle edamame, roasted chickpeas, sweet potato mash, lava egg. Protein-wise, there was chicken, salmon and tempeh options for vegetarians. Enjoyed my clean yet flavourful lunch! 😋
My colourful salad bowl for today: Well-spiced Cajun chicken, corn kernels, carrots, broccoli, alfalfa sprouts and grapes with balsamic olive oil dressing. On a roll with healthy eating. 👏🏻😌
It's been awhile since I've last had a salad bowl so this detox feels good 😊 Went for the salad option for $8.40 (you can choose olive rice too) and added $2.20 for my protein of choice. One of the more value-for-money salads considering the decent portion will definitely fill you up!
Salad Wednesday saw us at The Salad Shop. Decided to go all vegan today so no meat. Rabbit sized salad with 6 toppings. Loved that there was a huge variety of toppings, meat (+$3) and dressings to choose from. Also liked that there was quite a variety of salad bases to choose from: mixed lettuce/kale and romaine/baby spinach, instead of just the common lettuce. Would definitely add on meat when I try this again! 😌
Got the regular sized salad for $12 (1 protein + 1 carbo + 3 supplements). Very satisfying portion and lots of options to choose from! Personally liked that there were many 'cooked' veggies and not all raw ones. Had button mushrooms, asparagus, broccoli and Tilapia fillet on a bed of romaine lettuce. Will definitely visit again!
Healthy salmon salad for lunch today. An interesting mix of ingredients: grapefruit, olives, capers and a pretty decent portion of salmon sashimi with ponzu dressing. Salads were $11.95 each and there were other items on the menu (sushi rolls, rice bowls) that looked really good too. Worth a try if you're looking for a healthier option!
Dinner date with secondary school friends, tried out this vegan cafe who prides themselves in serving unprocessed food. (No sugar, no wheat, no bread) I liked the unique twist on my lasagne ($22): zucchini sheets layered with macadamia cream 'cheese', dried tomato slices and nutty bits as 'meat'. Absolutely different compared to an actual lasagne, but absolutely delicious if you want a light and refreshing meal. Ambience was lovely as well, very quiet even at dinner time. Wished there were more items on the menu to try out the next time though 😌
