The glistening, the marinate, and the melt in your mouth fatty char Siew. Wanna have this again. By the way, Char moved to Jalan Besar, no new geotag yet.
Warning: close ups of fatty char Siew may cause hunger or unease.

After hearing people rave and rave about this, I've finally dragged my lazy ass down to Sembawang to try this famed Tze char store. Loved every dish on the table, favourite being the prawn omelette which was fluffy, not too oily and had a beautiful wok hei. In fact it reminds me so much of an oyster omelette, just that this is the prawn version. Chicken wings are a popular choice here- crispy, not too oily and easy to eat. Sweet potato leaves were not bad, but I was never a fan of sweet potato leaves. And of course the white beehoon which deserves a standalone post....

From a stall named Vietnamese Food Bahn Mi & Pho in the same coffeeshop as 5 Star Western Food and Thai Jing Jing (recently relocated to Hougang). This is the Vietnamese Bread with BBQ Pork. At $4, this is probably the best Bahn Mi you could get at such price. Prepared on the spot, the baguette comes totally crisp on the exterior, yet fluffy and comes buttered on the inside with a chopped peanuts for a bit of crunch and flavour (didn't know about the peanuts when I ordered though), while the pickled vegetables were tangy with a little sweetness. BBQ Pork isn't really flavourful, nor the portion could be said as generous but the slices were chunky enough to give it enough bite, but it is saved by the oh-so-savoury bun and the flavorful condiments that the pork doesn't have to carry much a taste for this to be enjoyable.

Opened till late, Long Phung is a popular go-to place for late post-work dinners, or a different kind of supper grub. Enjoy a classic chicken or beef pho, crispy fried spring rolls, a refreshing bowl of grilled pork with vermicelli, or garlic cockles. If you love spice, don't miss their Spicy Beef Stew Noodle Soup — it's so darn satisfying. It can get crowded, especially during meal times, so expect queues! For a really tasty, affordable Vietnamese fare at under $10, it's well worth the wait.

Comforting on a rainy day. But I still prefer the dry version cos it's tastier!

Had my very missed phở gà (chicken noodle) from Vietnam. Though it's not as good as the authentic phở gà, but the standard isn't that far. Phở gà is actually this noodle that's like kway teo with chicken soup base, i prefer it with bean sprout and lime which they will place it on a seperate plate. The soup is very salty though, the authentic ones in Vietnam are way saltier than this.

As it was during lunch, they were serving the weekday lunch sets and I cannot miss the chance of ordering one of my favourite Thai dishes, Basil Pork Rice ($6.90), which comes with a fried egg on top of the rice. Definitely one of the more homely and authentic tasting basil pork dishes in Singapore without having to travel to Golden Mile. I must find time to come back here soon for dinner to try the Tom Yum Soup and Crab Bee Hoon.

Located near Toa Payoh library, this stall (#01-176) in a small coffee shop claims to have the number one wanton mee in Bangkok. Certainly taste quite authentic, with the thin well cooked noodle doused in fragrant Thai garlic oil which was a tad salty for me. The char siu was average, a bit dry but came in a generous heap. The wanton soup provided looked really oily but was tasty, having a peppery pork stock base. The chilli flakes didn't add much heat to the dish. At $4.50, it seems to be on the pricier side but I feel that the portion and taste justifies it.

(From left): Chilli Crab Bao (S$5.80) - I love the deep-fried bao, stuffed with crab meat! Enjoyed the meat while saving me the hassle of painstakingly cracking through the crab shells. But I would have prefer a milder sauce as their sauce is spicier-than-usual. Extra dipping sauce is also provided at the side for sauce lovers. (Right): Classic Bao (S$4.80) - I think it should be more flavourful. The braised pork belly is tender, but it would do better with stronger flavour.

It's one of the iconic places for supper in Singapore. Opened 24 hours daily, Meng Kitchen is the place to get your bak chor mee fix. We love it doused in vinegar together with the soup.

We also recommend the side of fish cake. Be patient and don't expect fantastic service as this place gets hectic at times.

Lam's Noodles has one of the better minced pork noodles around. The stall in Sin Ming isn't from the popular Lam's franchise but a true relative of the original Ah Lam (阿南).
They're generous with the number of ingredients they put in each bowl. The fish balls are pleasantly bouncy and chewy while the pork is tender.
