Honey Mascarpone Toast on the even so popular sourdough from @starterlab.sg
-
With the bakery craze of 2020, sourdough and the like are hitting homes like hot cakes. The sourdough here has great flavor and depth and is well made. The cheese doesn’t feel too heavy with the drizzle of honey over and lots of crunch. My only gripe is that they over toasted the bread making the edges almost impossible to chew or bite off.

Shoe string truffle fries are my bane. Crispy, truffle potato with seaweed shaker like flavors. What’s not to love?

Another crowd favorite is the pork chop! This is one juicy pork chop! Thick, juicy and soooo flavorful! You’ve not tasted pork chop like this in other cafes.
The truffle konbu fries, onion soup, chicken wings are great for sharing. So hit them up. And give it a try.

The second establishment by the people behind my favorite South Union Park! A French/Italian bistro of sorts that primarily serves Pasta and Mains.
Still serving their ever so popular hand made pasta, in a variety of sauces and styles. The crowd pleaser here is the short rib pasta! Lovely ribs that melt in your mouth paired with that lovely caramelized sauce.

Wide open spaces, lots of natural light, photo worthy furnishings and simple awesome fare.
The baked eggs are a hearty dish. Something warm that you'll love on a cold autumn morning with the breeze behind your back. Tangy tomato base, eggs, stringy cheese and fresh warm bread. All I need is a fire place and a book to snuggle my mornings away.

This was served with lusciously pink smoked salmon on a thick layer of cream cheese. Though I think the bagel could be toasted just a lil more. Simple fares are notoriously difficult to perfect, preferences differ too.

Ham, bacon and vanilla? Not the typical union of flavours, but boCHINche's rendition proves it to work. The brioche French toast ($19) here plays on the balance between sweet and salty. Instead of the usual savoury bacon, it is topped with house-cooked ham, and the bacon takes on unusual forms like bacon-vanilla ice cream, and also as sprinkles of bacon bits. This might be one of the pricier French toasts around, and enjoying a luxurious brunch here is certainly not reserved for a normal weekend. Come for a birthday treat with your best friend, or for a day-time date!

The Missing Pan's French Toast Salpicon ($19) is probably the most surprising of the lot with its hidden savoury centre contrasted with its numerous sweet fruit toppings. At first glance, it'd be hard to believe that this massive toast laden with fruit, fried banana nuggets and maple syrup on the side, hides a chicken, spinach and mushroom core. The sweet French toast exterior somehow pairs very well with its savoury quiche-like filling on the inside. Best part about this? It's your main + dessert all in one. Not everyone would enjoy this slightly odd combination, but don't knock it till you've tried it!

They call their Salted Caramel Brioche French Toast ($10) 'some of life’s best things on a single platter'. With impeccably fluffy brioche dusted with icing sugar, served with caramelised bananas, strokes of French cream and lashing of rich salted caramel, we couldn't have said it any better. As Tastemaker Shawn Loh puts it, 'it's as if the meal wants to smother me with pleasure'. Their savoury Gashouse Egg with Bacon Jam ($10) is simple, honest, and hearty, but it truly kicks ass. With a runny egg sitting in the middle of a thick slice of brioche toast, it is blanketed in melted cheese and comes with a side of scrumptious bacon jam. Be sure to bring a friend, just so you can try both.

Sometimes all you need is a good cup of kopi and kaya toast to satisfy the Singaporean in you, and that's when you head to Tong Ah. They've been serving butter kopi even before adding butter to coffee became a thing. Make sure you don't miss the super crispy kaya toast (tip: request for your toast to be crispy), and also their soft, irresistible pile of French toast. The kaya here is chunkier than what you're used to, but it adds that rustic feel and is still as good. For the quintessential local breakfast, add a couple of soft-boiled eggs. You'll have a breakfast of champions — and at a fraction of what you pay for at cafés!
