Indian Delights
I admit I was never the biggest fan of butter chicken (cause yes I thought it had butter); but after trying several amazing ones, I'm now a convert. Table by Rang Mahal's rendition saw the creamy and tangy gravy generously studded with tender chunks of chicken, making it a hearty and absolutely delicious side to any bready main. Their naans aren't the best, but for this stellar butter chicken I'd order a basketful.
Not that it was the best of the dishes we tried; but simply cause for someone who doesn't usually like/eat rice, I couldn't keep my hands off this Lamb Briyani. The long-grained basmati rice was cooked perfectly, the generous amounts of tender lamb chunks were absolutely delightful - but what made the dish for me was the amazing use of spice. I love how the wilted mint leaves are interlaced with the spiced rice, adding a little bit of mellowed freshness that cuts through all the rich flavours.
The concept's not hard to understand. Chinese + Indian = Chindian; it's no rocket science. But understanding the word's one thing; imagining the cuisine is a totally different ballgame. Never in the world would I expect Chindian food to be so innovative and taste so delicious! Last night Copper Chimney introduced me to a unique fusion cuisine. Think dishes like Salt & Pepper Babycorn and Chili Palak Paneer. Serving up amazing classic Northern Indian cuisine as well as these stellar Chindian ones, I believe I may have found my new fave Indian ressie.
My must-order on every visit. In fact it's so good I usually have one to myself. Sizzling hot, the heat and spice makes it the ultimate shiok dish.
(I can't do this pun shiz) Absolutely loving the tandoori-oven breads whipped up at Usman. Every naan is prepped to order, arriving piping hot and ohsodelicious. Naan game so on point.
Dad brought us round his 'hood to check out his frequent prata joint at Ubi Blk 3004. Didn't catch the name, but dad said the shop's originally from Queenstown and has been around for the past 30 years. And for very good reason. The prata was flavourful and really crispy. Paired with the delish mutton curry it made the heartiest breakfast I've had in a long time. Would've been perfect if it were fluffier.
It looks like a shabby coffee shop, but Usman is not one to be underestimated. They make arguably the best naans and palak paneer I've ever tasted. The naans are freshly made on ordering, always arriving puffy, charred, and piping hot. Their flavourful palak paneer makes a better dipping sauce than the usual daals. And the hot plate pepper fish: ohmygoddess I swear. Best shit ever.
I don't usually share my fave spots cause they're already that damn crowded, but it's so good I decided to be nice.
It seems odd that a vegetarian restaurant could make the best prata I've had, let alone a good prata. Yet despite all the good prata recommendations I've checked out, I've never found one that made a prata quite as awesome as this. Golden and crisp on the outside, the best part about their prata is its fluffiness. It is by far the FLUFFIEST prata I've had. And the curry, whilst vegetarian, is so tasty you'd never believe it.
