Hartamas Noms
Prices for "artisanal" coffees were much cheaper (below RM 10) with various desserts at the counter. Simple location for a coffee fix and a little date perhaps? š
My fellow lava-cake fans, you can get your cravings fixed here at a reasonably cheap price!
Also had to try the new Mcflurry Peanut Reeses. Not as nice as I expected š. Just some peanut butter chips and chocolate syrup on top of churned softserve.
Or maybe it's time for brunch since it's already noon.
Head over to real food for REAL FOOD š. Get over Monday blues with this refreshing muesli, of soy yogurt, bananas, apples, berries, and oats all mixed together to form a comforting blend.
If you're the type that doesn't mind the little seed textures of raspberries and blackberries, you will definitely love this!
But bummer! I was supposed to get an "organic" cookie on the side but I didn't. Got diced apples and bananas instead š¢
Food: 6/10 Price: 5/10 (RM 18)
Coffee is served with soy!
Organic mushroom aglio olio pasta with a dash of chilly. (Option to omit chilly if you don't like spicy)
Very minimal oil used proven when presented with a humble shine. Nicely al dente pasta with good portion for a very satisfying lunch. And also delicious mushroom medley stir fried nicely with the right earthy taste.
Food: 8/10 Price: 5/10 (RM 22 - Yes because it's organic it's overly charged. Only criticism is the price for food here)
WWE is smacked in the middle of the centre sidewalk in between Souled Out and Cubs & Cups doggy cafe, they are a unique "street food" stall with gourmet food you'd find in fancy restaurants.
Opened by two high school buddies and the chef is formerly from the familiar Japanese restaurant, Nobu.
The Wagyu steak I had comes with cold soba, a side of grilled root vegetables, and some housemade Japanese sauce for the steak. Such a juicy piece of meat I would definitely come back for more. Nicely seasoned with salt & pepper. Flavour was enhanced by the housemade sauce. Make sure you dip them steak in!
Definitely would try the Wagyu burger and chicken slider next time around.
Food: 8/10 Price: RM 26/100g - minimum order 200g only (basically RM 52 for a basic piece of Wagyu)
Grilled chicken with a rather sweet and spicy sauce. If the word "volcanic" scares you, not to worry because it was a forgivable level of spiciness.
There was a significant taste of spices that I don't really know but it was just like sambal chicken.
Tender and juicy grilled thighs, definitely a white meat pleaser. Served with a side of potato salad, and fresh salad. Initial choice was a side of fries but you can always opt for your preferred choice and the kitchen will definitely accommodate you.
Not much to shout about as its really an average chicken dish. My mother who ate with me was not impressed. Flavorful, but mediocre.
Food: 5/10 Price: 5/10 (RM 25)
First of all, I would like to mention the excellent service Proof Cafe gives because I was at first given an incredibly horrible soggy bread under the poached eggs (a rookie mistake for restaurants to serve undrained poached eggs) but my first plate was willingly replaced with a new plate, of perfect crusty bread and runny egg yolk. Something different from other breakfasts, Proof offers sautƩed spinach, something lighter than baked beans. I love their spinach and I wish I could have more!
And I just found out VCR serves spinach in their big breakfast too! Time to head there! š Besides that, sautĆ©ed mushrooms were not as fragrant as the sautĆ©ed spinach, chicken ham and sausage is nothing special but of course, edible and satisfying.
It's hard to justify the pricing for big breakfast, or go wrong with cooking basic hams, sausages, grill half a tomato, sautƩ some mushrooms and serve eggs of any style to your liking with bread, to assemble as the classic English (unless you really can't step a foot in the kitchen). But based on my experience and preferences, I'm still a fan of Antipodean Bangsar breakfasts and Yellow Brick Road. I must try VCR's though.
Food: 6/10 Price: 6/10 (RM 23 - also a choice of complimentary black coffee and tea)
An Indonesian inspired restaurant. This slab of pork ribs is so delicious I think this is the best ribs I've tried by far. Squeeze some lime on top of the meat and rub the chilly sauce on top for some delicious kick. (Optional. Having it by itself is delicious too!) Very tender meat. Soft and flavourful. Falls of the bones without any hassle. Finger licking good! Thank god they did not drown the meat in BBQ sauce.
The manager/owner of the restaurant cut it up for us and says the our ribs was very fresh because he could cut it with minimal effort. If it's tough, it's quite an old meat. He would send it back and give us a fresher one.
Although I had quite a tough meat on my second visit, other parts were still as delicious. My first visit was the best though!
If you're looking good BBQ pork ribs, head over to Naughty Nuri's, just behind Bricks and Barrels. They also have other delicious porky dishes! To be reviewed soon!
Food: 8/10 Price: 9/10 (RM 39 for one slab!! Comparing this to ante's kitchen, the portion is about the same. But the price difference is huge! I think the price for this slab of ribs is really worth it. š)

Finally back here. I wanted something healthy and it's really hard to to healthy restaurants. Then I remembered BreadFruits is one! So yay! And I was craving for salmons and their sandwiches. Which is unusual.
Clockwise: Chicken avocado sandwich, watermelon juice, banana chocolate muffin, smoked salmon platter and house coffee.
Chicken sandwich was delicious! The chicken was grilled with great seasoning and tasted a bit like tandoori chicken. In between the brown bread was a few pieces of avocados and sprouts. Served with the salad of the day, a simple and tasty potato salad.
Next main dish is the salmon breakfast platter. Finally had the guts to try something with salmon. The platter comes with an avocado salad, scrambled eggs, sourdough toast, smoked salmon and some rockets. This combination is amazing! And I love the avocado salad. I'm going to try to make it when I'm home. So in love with the tasty avo-salad. The overall dish is delicious as well because a combination of salmon, avocado and egg is amazing.
My breakfast platter came with coffee/tea and juice of the day. The juice of the day is watermelon juice. I had a basic long black. Coffee was not to bad! It goes well with everything. Especially the muffin. They only use fresh milk here so I didn't take their milky coffee blends.
Last but not least, homemade banana chocolate muffin. The owner said it is made by his sister and she uses whole wheat flour. I love this muffin. Not really a muffin water but this certainly caught my eye. Not overly sweet, with a taste of cinnamon bringing out the banana taste. It's really delicious! š
Food: 8/10 Price: 7/10 (RM 17.80 for sandwich // RM 25.80 for salmon platter // RM 3.20 for muffin. They are a bit on the expensive side. It's in Hartamas anyway. Things are always slightly more expensive.) P/S. Stomach wasn't feeling too well after a while. Maybe because I can't take salmon as I have a very sensitive digestion system.
I had hot soba noodles with mushrooms. Soup is so clear and the soba was amazing as usual. Noodles were a lot though.
My family shared two sets of two grilled scallops. I didn't like this one. Very fishy smell. š
A plate of sashimi sushi from a dinner set and a plate of dragon roll. Their dragon roll here is the best!! I couldn't eat the dragon roll because I was too full from my noodles.. Sigh. But I had it before and it's my favourite!
Portion at rakuzen is always very big. Not in picture, we ordered sukiyaki set, yakiniku(beef) rice set and mini udon set. They are incredibly generous with the amount of beef served. You will come out from Rakuzen with a turtle shell after having their meal. Really worth it!
Food: 8/10 Price: 8/10 (I don't know all of the prices. But I know my noodles were RM 18 and a huge beef rice set with miso soup, sides, fruits, rice and chawanmushi is RM 36. Really value for money at Rakuzen and guaranteed to fill you up!)
In picture (clockwise): Soft Shell Crab Temaki, Ebiten Temaki (Fried prawn tempura), California Temaki (crabstick), Sake Ikura Temaki (Salmon sashimi and fish roe) and Unakyu Temaki (Eel and cucumber). The handrolls were made perfectly. Fresh and neat. Love Japanese sushi rice! Have them with pickled ginger, some soy sauce and wasabi, you'll get a burst of freshness and appetite.
What stood out the most was the Sake Ikura Temaki! The salmon literally melts in your mouth! So fresh and so good!
My all time favourite is the California Temaki. Definitely did not disappoint.
Soft shell crab was very flavorful. But the handroll is not as nice as the sushi plate.
Ebiten Temaki was just a prawn tempura handroll. Nicely fried batter and fresh prawns!
The weirdest one for me was Unakyu Temaki because it is an eel sushi. I felt a little sharpness when I bit it in. Quite terrifying. I thought I was biting into some bones. But I guess it's just how it's fried or cooked to crispness.
I love going to Rakuzen for Japanese food because they serve the freshest sashimi and the most tender Yakiniku/Beef stir fry rice set. They are very generous with their set menu too! Fruits, chawanmushi, pickled vegetables, miso soup, a whole load of rice and your protein. Go for their set meals for a cheap steal!
I recommend their dragon roll too. Another favourite of mine which is a prawn/lobster sushi roll, topped with avocado.
Food: 9/10 Price: 8/10 (RM 8 for each handroll - Some might say Rakuzen is very expensive but they are the cheapest place for fresh, high quality and satisfying Japanese food)
Great first impression. Nice and classy exterior. Friendly cashier. Place was mostly occupied by 2pm. The food was alright. The chicken wrap in BBQ sauce was good. But too small portion for it's price. And in the menu, it was stated as PITA bread but I got a wrap instead. Coffee comes with standard double espresso shot. Had latte and cappuccino. Not really nice and not special. It didn't hit my coffee spot. Nutella or banana French toast. Add RM 3 for both. Again, expensive. Honey or maple syrup was missing. Not enough eggs for the French toast. Didn't try the cakes because they are from lids and finch. Which I've tried before and is good. Rate: 6/10 for food; 5/10 for price.
Clockwise; iced latte, orange seafish with whole meal bread, grilled chicken diavola with Italian herb bread, hot cappuccino.
Good place for hanging out while enjoying good coffee and sandwiches. Did you know Cosans is CO-ffee+SAN-dwiches? Heheh
Both of the sandwiches I tried was good! Except the fish was deep fried which I don't like. I added lettuce to my chicken sandwich. Yummy! Breads were so fluffy. Orange Italian bread is slightly on the sweeter side!
Although I think the sandwiches were very expensive, it came to me in a rather huge portion! So i did get what I paid for. They don't really have much choices of food. Just salads and sandwiches. And the sandwiches are rather complicated. Not your normal tuna/turkey/blt toasties. These are gourmet sandwiches. š
