I don't take oysters but I still like fried oysters omelette for that eggy mix that is stir fried together. Hock Kee's mix has a generous amount of eggs (yay!) with a gooey cornstarch layer that isn't too sticky or oily. Parts of it are pan fried until crispy that is super satisfying, especially when you dip it with that tangy spicy chilli sauce by he side. #BurppleBestofSerangoonGarden

The star of Ah Seng Braised Duck Rice ($3.5 for 1 pax) for me would be that dark braised sauce. It is salty and savoury with a slight hint of herbal taste that is perfectly soaked up by the duck meat. The lean meat is tender and not dry at all, with a thin layer of fats running through the top. With an excellent braising sauce, it's definitely worthwhile to add on other ingredients like the taupok, taugwa and egg ($1.6). #BurppleBestofSerangoonGarden

Northern Thai style tomyum that I throughly enjoyed with just about the right amount of spiciness, sourness and creamy-ness without a thick layer of oil over it. My favorite ingredient is the fried fish with a super fragrant skin that is perfect after soaking up the soup, but also not forgetting the other fresh ingredients such as sliced fish, prawns and tofu.

Northern Thai is open on Monday to Saturday from 1030am till sold out.

Hawker food might become a dying trade in future as more and more hawkers retire. Having young hawkers entering this laborious scene is very encouraging as they strive to continue serving comforting food at affordable prices.

Xiao Di Fried Prawn Noodles is helmed by a young hawker who first started out helping his friends at their hawker stall and then moving on to fry hokkien mee at a few places such as Yong Heng Hokkien Mee. Under the training of several hawkers and self exploration of recipe & cooking techniques via the internet, he decided to open his own stall. His hokkien mee (pictured is $4) is wet with the noodles soaking up the broth. I found that winning factor to be the broth which was robust and sweet tasting. He shared that he uses prawns from Thailand with more roe in the prawn heads to achieve the flavorful soup stock. He also uses more than average amount of garlic to increase the fragrance of the noodles. The pork lard is freshly fried and each piece is airy and extremely crispy. Chilli is an important component to me and the housemade sambal chilli (I asked for more!) is spicy and sour which complements the noodles without overpowering it.

Each serving comes with prawns, sotong, pork belly and egg — my only gripe is the serving is on the small side! We wiped out the plate in minutes and can't wait to return for the large serving next time! #BurppleYoungHawkers

Bacon wrapped tomato ($1.8) barbecued over charcoal to create the charred surfaces. The best part of it all? That warm juicy tomato that burst in my mouth!

My superb comfort food in the form of a rich herbal black chicken broth with mee sua, liver and pork slices ($7 for large as featured or $5 for small). We prefer the Kembangan over the Bedok outlet for the silky smooth meesua and generous amount of ingredients! I love it with lots of chilli padi!

A clear soup broth filled with a generous amount of sweet and fresh seafood — thick fish slices, squid, prawn, fishmaw and minced meat. This bowl of Mixed Seafood Soup ($7) was well worth the 30 minutes wait in line and I didn't feel thirsty after having it!

The stall is open from 8am-3pm but they started turning people down from 2.20pm when I was there on a Sunday. Closed on Mondays.

Sunday's sinful indulgence after a 30 minutes wait — a plate of wok fried kway teow with cockles, lup cheong, bean sprouts and chives. The noodles might be a little too limpy for me as they were all pre-fried and stir fried again before serving. Nevertheless, the sweet sticky mess is still satisfying.

So thin, crispy and sinful with that condensed milk drizzled over. Don't bother to order the one with sugar - just sprinkle the sugar that is available at the table over the prata!

The one bowl of calories that I've been craving for — Heng Kee's Curry Noodles ($7 for drumstick/ji wei. Otherwise, a standard bowl at $5). A whole pile of soft taupok, fish cakes and potato (I must ask for more next time!), tender poached chicken and yellow noodles in a bowl of comforting curry. Add in a little of that sambal to increase its robustness!

Open from Tues to Sat, till about 230pm/ when sold out.

Extremely qq thin yellow noodles drenched with a generous amount of curry that really reminded of the ones my grandma used to cook. The deep fried chicken cutlet is also a must here — a continuous queue is always found here so the chicken cutlets are always freshly fried!

Happy to have discovered Centre Satay Bee Hoon (#01-12) with my fellow tastemakers at this hawker centre within walking distance from Ang Mo Kio station. I like how each strand of beehoon is evenly coated with the fragrant nutty peanut sauce that is mildly spicy, giving enough "oomph" with each mouthful. There is also a good amount of ingredients — kangkong, cuttlefish, lean meat, prawns, cockles and taupok, but the peanut sauce alone warrants a return visit!
