Chinatown
Big Lunch Plate at $9++, available during lunchtime on weekdays
Ambience is lovely on a normal Friday night. No music blasting in your ears yet soothing enough and cozy amidst the lighting. Food is decent in small portions and accompanying drinks are even nicer
Found this by chance and I think its such a hidden gem! Although the grilled chicken doesn't taste out of this world, but this dish is pretty neat considering its $8 (before gst). Definitely enough to fill my tummy. The environment itself was one of its kind too, very inviting and cosy. It was full house (indoors and outdoors) during lunch hours and there was a long queue when I was about to go. Their menu is quite extensive I would say, do check them out if you're around Chinatown. Lunch menu is only available on weekdays 12-3pm.
Pulled pork done in the slow cooker using a simple spice mixture in the sandwich alongside with rocket greens and tomatoes. Brutal honest review it tasted good and I love it!
My second visit to Shoebox Canteen for some comfort food. The Homemade Beef and Bacon Burger in a fluffy bun was delicious in rich flavour and texture. The only item that was overlooked was the straight cut fries which turned out rather soggy, but overall it was still good. The staff actually offered to replace fresh ones but I turned down their offer because I was simply too full.
Shoebox Canteen will be celebrating their 1st year anniversary coming 19 December and the menu is set to change every three weeks. Swing by Shoebox Canteen / Bitters & Love to try out delectable food and creative drinks at this cozy modern bistro with passionate and extremely friendly folks.
Weekday gets even better with divine Italian fare. The lunch special at SONS Bacaro is just what you need. A selection of 16 large Italian plates are available during lunch time and priced reasonably from $8 to $12.
This not a lunch special, but one of the homemade artisanal pasta from the regular menu.
The one and only dish I always look out for - "Red Wine Mee Sua". I'm not a big fan when comes to chinese food but this never fails to amaze me whenever I'm at People's Park Complex for lunch/dinner.
This is one of the highly recommended food you should try when you're nearby! š
When talking about porridge in Maxwell Food Centre, Zhen Zhen usually comes to mind. However, when it comes to good Cantonese porridge, Hoe Kee is a strong contender. Their raw sliced fish/ pork & century egg porridges - hot, smooth, and comforting, are huge hits, and with their generous portions and opening hours stretching until 2.30am (4am on Fri-Sun), we can definitely see why!
If you want claypot rice that's a cut above the rest, this is it. Cooked upon order, you'll get great traditional claypot rice cooked over charcoal, and the wait can stretch up to an hour. Tender chicken meat, salted fish, lup cheong, charred rice bits, excellent sweet sauce and chilli? Check. This is one of the best places you can get claypot rice at in Singapore, but don't go when you're ravenous because you might get really hangry!
