Chinese & Cantonese Cuisine
Seriously, there is no doubt that when it comes to Cantonese cuisine, YÀN [宴] does it best. These chili crab meat buns from their seasonal menu are The Bomb. The bun is beautifully crisp, its pillowy soft interior crumbling beneath the teeth, chunks of juicy, fresh crab meat slashed with a perfectly balanced sweet and spicy chili crab sauce.
This is definitely a dish we'll miss when we're away from Singapore.
Served with house-made crêpe and traditional garnishes, this is decadent; probably the best Peking duck we’ve had in Singapore. Its thinly sliced skin shines in its own jus, perfectly crisp with a gentle underlying layer of fat, just sufficient to make it unctuous without cloying greasiness.
Then wrapped in a chewy savory crêpe with cucumber stalks and julienned leek, and dressed in a sweet-savory duck sauce, this creation is gold. It is impossible to turn down a second helping, or a third for that matter.
But the enjoyment does not end there. A second course [$10 for half; $15 for whole] of the dish awaits – its meat briskly fried in black bean sauce and tossed in chili powder to exude aromatic flavors of Chinese spice, soft hues of pink showcases its tenderness as it should be, robust salty, savory and spicy flavors coming together in unison to please the palate.

We're slurping up every bit of this sweet, concentrated chicken broth, and loving it!
New on Shisen Hanten's menu is this comforting claypot fish fillet. Thick slices of fish are matched with the sharpness of pickled vegetable. The meat falls apart gently in the mouth, its sweetness absorbed thickly by its concentrated broth. Perfect for a rainy day!
Each Scottish bamboo clam is steamed with glass noodles, enoki mushroom and water chestnut that adds a surprising element of sweetness and crunch, best savored with heaps of crispy fried garlic—it's so good you'll never have enough.
Can we please have some now?
Heartwarmingly comforting is this lobster porridge at Diamond Kitchen's new sister establishment at Science Park, part of its Diamond Seafood Signatures Set ($88 per person; min. four to order), available now till Jul 31.
Lobsters are first steamed before being boiled in chicken stock, Chinese wine, ginger and 'pao fan' (broken rice) to absorb its rich flavors. It's mad delicious, really.
Perfect for a rainy day. Or not.
We would love some right now.
So we finally made it down to Paradise Dynasty to try these colorful award-winning little blobs. My word. We were not disappointed. Just look at the steam coming off these soup dumplings!
Szechuan, ginseng, foie gras, black truffle, cheese, crab roe, garlic, and original. Eight handmade soup dumplings that made our tastebuds tingle and yearn for more. Especially delish was the crab roe, black truffle, garlic, and our absolute favorite, foie gras! The rich and intense broth injected in the soup dumpling leaves little to imagination, its sweetness puncturing our thoughts with happiness, and all we can do is smile.
And stuff our faces with more.
So much happiness exist in these crisp and chewy slices of crust pastry, enveloping juicy and moist minced pork and chives akin the filling of gyozas, its flavorful soupy broth fragrantly infused into the meat. The combination of textures and taste is simply alluring. Trust us, you won't stop at one.
The springy, chewy tenacity of these noodles combined with a pleasing thick chicken infused sauce are best savored with a handful of thinly sliced green chili (soaked in vinegar). Opt for the set meal ($7.50) that includes dumpling soup and "luo han guo" drink.
But when we're surrounded by such hawker fare at ABC Market, it's hard to settle on just one! 😄 What do you love at ABC Market?
Where's your favorite spot for xiao long baos? 😋
