Whoa this was gooood. The sauce is savoury-sweet and very addictive over rice. The pork ribs are so so so tender, and it’s nice that they also include a few slices of pork belly. Loved the few pieces of ladies finger in there too. This fared better than their soup, but I think I’d still order both for variety! The youtiao was super disappointing and soft, not giving you the desired effect at all. Will definitely come back for this!
At a dollar a piece, this was really good value considering the quality! The shatteringly crisp batter gave that ultimate satisfaction of biting into a freshly fried chicken wing, and the fermented prawn paste flavour was just prominent enough. Certainly one of the best I’ve had! Such a delight alongside a bubbling bowl of dry BKT.
Superb soon kueh! The turnip filling is incredibly juicy and flavourful. The skin may look thick, but it’s actually just the right texture and bite. Served with sweet sauce on one side and chili on the other. We also tried the yam cake with CCF, everything was velvety smooth. It’s no wonder the queue here is perpetual!
If you see people around you eating this, faster order!! Always miss this when I come here, so happy to have snagged a portion today. The seafood paste is generous, flavourful and bouncy, while the vegetables are nicely fried. Everything is drenched in this savoury, slightly smoky sauce that makes this irresistible. Hope you manage to order this when you dine here!
Totally satisfied my teochew muay cravings here. That bitter gourd was so good we braved the 15 min queue just to order a second round! The steamed fish was the other highlight for me, while all the other dishes were as good as I hoped for them to be. Loved how big and bright the stall is, and how fast the queue moves. Don't be daunted, it's worth the wait. All this for around $15 for two.
My fav prawn noodles ever. Love the super fall-off-the-bone pork ribs, which was even more tender the previous time, and the lovely chili powder they sprinkle on top of everything. The soup was better the last time too, but still provided a nice umami prawny-ness. Hope they can be more consistent, but still far better than others out there!
Min Nan Prawn Noodles (#02-31)
Beside the famous char siew / wanton mee, I always order the prawn mee first and stand in the wanton mee queue while waiting for it to be cooked.
First time trying this! Instead of syrup, this smooth beancurd comes topped with bak chor and sesame oil. Served warm, I wish I could have this for breakfast 😋
When I'm in the Duxton area, Foong Kee is the usual choice for roast meats. Decided to try this instead, since I've heard good things. It was a most enjoyable plate of noodles and roast meat, one I'd gladly go for should the queue at Foong Kee be too long. The char siew was nicely sweet and smoky, and the duck very tasty. Noodles were pleasant. Also really enjoyed the sauce ladled over the meat. Portion was just right, this was $4.50.
So much wok hei, so smoky, so moist. Prawns so big and juicy. Chili not spicy but very tasty. This has become #1. Please try the orh luak next stall and the epic satay too! (Geylang Lor 29 Coffeeshop)
We ate here because we couldn't help but notice almost everyone in the hawker center eating this beautiful steamed fish! There are four different kinds of fish and sizes to choose from, simply pick your favourite and accompanying dishes with either rice or porridge. The bak chor was amazing. The veg was not too oily and the whole meal felt incredibly nutritious, and only $13 shared between two of us! What a gem of a stall. (Unit 100, Mixed Veg Rice & Porridge, spot the long queue)
Currently the only dosa in town which tastes distinctly of fermented rice and black lentil, the very reason why dosas are so addictive. While I love the crispy paper variant at good ol' Komala Vilas, this one never fails to steal my heart with its fragrance and consistently satisfying bite. It is not only the dosa batter that is stellar, the potato filling within is everything you want it to be, and the chutneys play their role expertly. Don't miss this.
Pork Ribs Kway Teow from Chung Cheng Chilli Mee located at The Golden Mile Beach Road Food Centre. My grandma first introduced this gem to me as her childhood favorite and now, I'm hooked! Can never get enough of the chili... Noms.
