The online reviews for this was “delicious seafood in a no-frills coffee shop” and “very shiok sambal pomfret”. That was probably true years ago for Gobbler.
Revisiting this in recent times and trying out their speciality sambal balachan fish was quite a disappointment for us. The fish meat was tender but it was just overkill with the oil and balachan, leaving it with a cloying aftertaste .
It wasn’t worth our calories 😔
Not sure what to order and this was recommended by them as one of their special delicacy. This deep fried fish is extra crispy/crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. Topped and buried with a generous amount of fragrant and spicy dried sambal which perfect with a bowl of rice 》$35
These balls are indeed bombs! Pop the golden deep fried ball into your mouth and be surprised with the cold durian lava bursting in your mouth. Only fried upon order, be careful not to rush and burn your tongue!
Always have a weak spot for yam and of course this got me going hyped up. Definitely not cheap but I can't complain for its generous topping of cashew nuts and yams covered with thin crispy skin. Would have this again anytime!
What a spread we had! Thank you @Burpple for the awesome dinner and keeping us well fed as always~
My favourite on our table was their signature Hae Zor (Prawn roll). Much like ngoh hiang but with the added fragrance of prawn paste, Lai Huat's rendition was two-thumbs up. Served hot and crispy with a side of sweet sauce, the yummy fried parcels were very well-executed. Not too greasy and the crispy skin was too good to pass up.
Thank you @burpple for feeding us last night with a very shiok sambal balachan fish (and special mentions to the crispy tofu and haezor) 🤗
