Breakfast was never the same again ever since this stall opened weeks ago. I had a bowl of Lontong made fresh on the spot by the makcik. For just $4.50, it came loaded with ingredients: carrot, cabbage, hard-boiled egg, rice cake, serundeng, long bean, tau pok, and sambal.
Donât let that pale-looking curry fool you, the spiciness is real. It made me sweat my head off and cry a tear. Despite the heat, it was really good. Is this what they call suffering from deliciousness? Haha. The curry was quite watery, but the flavour was thick and lemaky, smooth and comforting. The vegetables were stewed till soft and melted easily with each bite. That extra sambal was very spicy, and I think it had onions and ikan bilis in it, which helped elevate the whole dish.
Itâs a real yum yum. Who needs a workout when breakfast makes you sweat this much?

Breakfast Prata Cravings.
Gave in to my prata craving this morning with a Plain Prata ($1.20) which was crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside and an Egg Prata ($1.80) that had a nice sweet, eggy flavour.
I like how they werenât greasy at all, so even the health-conscious crowd can enjoy guilt-free. Paired them with fish curry that added a gentle heat and that signature savoury, fishy depth.
P.S. The prices are part of an early bird promo so once breakfast hours are over, theyâll revert to the usual.

Not a popular choice among the diners but it turned out to be pretty decent. Crispy pork wasnât the best as the crispy skin probably fell off during the frying but the flavour was not bad.
đMomâs Recipe
A relatively new stall selling various Thai rice/noodle and side dishes in the Hola Cafeteria next to Simei MRT station.
One of the most popular dishes is none other than this Basil leaf chicken with rice. The basil leaves made the dish incredibly fragrant and sort of became another aromatic leafy vegetable (instead of the limp basil leaves commonly found in this dish served elsewhere) to be savoured, aside from the diced long beans. The minced chicken was tender in a sauce packed with a spicy kick and so much of flavour. Adding a sunny side up ($0.50) is a must as the glorious flowy yolk could make the whole dish come together even more. Definitely my place to go before my night shiftsđ

Not bad chicken rice. Have been eating for a while :)

A random Saturday I had time to kill and was contemplating between commercial Yuan Yang (~>$2) but thought I should just try out Hola and that was the best decision Iâve made (recently). No skimping on the Carnation milk here and good Teh-Kopi blend.... at a cost of $1.50; a complete small win that made my Saturday â¨
