Was taken aback when this dish was served. Didn’t quite connect with what I thought tauhu telur was supposed to be. But interesting nonetheless. Springy to the touch and when you cut through it generous servings of tauhu spill out from this little ball. Might be worth a try if you haven’t had one of these before.
Not the typical slathered-with-kecap-manis type you’ll find in typical Indonesian restaurant chains around Singapore. But I really really enjoyed this!!! The spice blend was a harmonious mix of flavours: sweet, spicy, salty that tingled your tastebuds. The fragrances of the spices (lemongrass, chilli etc.) also came out very strongly.
I felt that this dish was an excellent embodiment of Indonesian cuisine.
The grilled flavour came out really nicely. Sauce wasn’t too sweet and the squid was tender yet chewy. Definitely one of my favourites! The ambience was great!
.
Meaty and sweet, marinated then grilled till it take on a smoky aroma.
.
Butterfly cut, it comes out from the shell with a little effort.

You cannot go wrong with this fish. Even a non fish eater will love it. Dip it in black sauce with chilies and onions and have it with steaming hot rice. Shiok!
