I have to say this is really almost close to the taste of the Hokkien Mee in Penang, except the soup can be more spicy. The prawns given was huge and shell removed. Definitely will come back again to try other items on their menu. $6.90
Signature Carrot Cake ($6.90)
.
Those golden cubes of carrot cake @gucheng.sg are so crispy on the outside tossed extravagantly with chinese sausage aka lap cheong, scrambled eggs, and bean sprouts then topped generously with dried shrimp bits had me mopping the plate clean. Iโm not sure that this is the way Penang does its carrot cake since this eatery prides itself for serving up Penang dishes but Iโd order this for sure for all future visits!
Whipped out the Burpple app and found this little gem of a place selling affordable Penang food. Their signature, this carrot cake was surprisingly impressive! The surface of each piece of carrot cake had this amazing crisp layer that almost had me thinking I was eating lard. ๐With prawns, egg and even little slices of lup cheong, this was a super tasty (but sinful) treat that Iโll definitely be back for one day.
Craving this Penang Laksa we tried awhile back at Gu Cheng. Cooked in a fish-based, spicy and tangy soup, the rice noodles are plump and springyโmy absolute favourite!
This place is truly underrated. If you're looking for some good Penang dishes at affordable prices, check out Gu Cheng.

Nice interior, friendly staff and good food at reasonable prices! We had the prawn noodles, lor bak and carrot cake.
The prawn noodles(6.90) was flavourful with a robust broth, although compared to some of the best in penang it seems to lack a certain sweetness.
The carrot cake(6.90) was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and serving was generous - no problems having it as a main dish. Wish it could be a bit more flavourful though.
Overall the place was ๐ and would revisit! They also have some kuehs, perfect for a after meal snack!
Hungry ๐ for some Penang food which we had last nite.

Due to HDB's rules, there was limitations in cooking in the kitchen, but they still managed to produce a plate of nicely crispy carrot cake minus the wok hei.
Although some of the dishes were listed spicy ๐ถ on the menu, the spiciness was actually mild.
The assam laksa was rich in flavour, although would prefer it to be more spicy. It was served with a scoop of Hae Ko ่พ็พ (Sweeten dark prawn paste) for the extra kick.
The lok bak, looked similar to the local version's ngoh hiang (five spice roll), was packed with chunky five spice powder marinated pork, and rolled up with soy bean skin ่
