While some may prefer a less milky ratio, I personally found this perfectly close to my ideal type of an excellent matcha pie. No complains about the crumbly crust either. It's the kind of pie I don't mind substituting as my birthday cake (damn simple but I mean it) 😂 & If anything, I can only say I've been dying to return to try out their brunch menu. Can someone bring me back here again 🙏🏻
P.S. Scouting more people in my life who actually worship matcha. Let's be friends.
It was the name that got me first. FUWA FUWA.
Apparently 'fuwa fuwa' means fluffy / light & airy - and these Japanese soufflé pancakes were indeed! With a custardy centre, this stack of 3 thick pancakes were served up with banana chutney, blueberry jam and chocolate shavings. They sit on the sweeter side of the pancake scale so, more desserty than breakfasty. Not bad at all.
DW itself is a beautiful spot in a colonial building surrounded by lush greenery - with indoor seating, long tables for groups and outdoor dining.
👍🏼
This colonial looking building homes dw workshop. You can come here for art and craft, chill and catch-up over food and drinks, or both! During off-peak hours, it's a great place to get some work done, they have no wifi, but there's power plugs!;) pricing is a bit over average cafe prices...
Now that the work week is over, it's time to get those brunch plans sorted. Skip the hipster cafes and hop over to DW Workshop, a two-storey colonial bungalow surrounded by lush greenery for a change—its outdoor balcony is an excellent choice when the weather's being lovely.
I'd recommend the Crab Croissant if a light, yet satisfying option is what you're looking for. Fresh and sweet chunks of crab dressed in light Japanese mayo dressing and perfectly poached eggs topped with sweet peppers add heft to the crisp, flaky croissant. Delicious on its own, or made decadent with choron sauce (tomato-based Béarnaise sauce) thoughtfully served on the side.
Sea salt caramel cake
Fake fireplace with Scandinavian feel
Love to watch the fire and and sit in the colonial house for a break
Friendly staff
Pleasantly surprised by the quality of their desserts. The Lemon Curd Tart was mouth-puckeringly delicious and beautifully balanced, as was the moist Carrot Cake, slathered with citrusy cream cheese and generously studded with nuts and fruit.
But the one that excels them all, is none other than the Matcha Milk Pie. Its robust, earthy matcha fragrance instantly arrests your tastebuds when you sink your teeth into it, the pleasure further amplified by the buttery tart and creme fraiche. Matcha lovers, be sure not to miss this!
