Sweet Things
This was only alright. The churros were not very crisp on the outside and the inside was a little on the dense side. Probably better off getting something else.
Spent $17 on a waffles (set of 2) and 3 massive scoops of ice cream. The waffles here are always good and I've never been disappointed with Creamier. We went with a rich Black Forest, the (always good) pistachio and the Horlicks - which in its own malty way, oddly had an after taste of mushroom soup. Eh?
Also, this location tucked away in Gillman Barracks has to be my favourite ice cream spot - though slightly more annoying to get to.
We couldn't decide what we thought about the cheesecake. You couldn't taste the cheese really, it was overtaken by the azuki beans. The matcha later was strong and bitter - I quite enjoyed this. The goma ice cream was only ok, quite milky and not as much sesame flavour. I've defo had better at Japanese restaurants.
Crispy on the outside, reasonably fluffy on the inside and so sugary delicious all round.
I'll be honest and say reading the reviews about this cake was what got me interested in visiting CreatureS. This enormous slice of super moist chocolate cake is soooo lush. The 72% bittersweet dark chocolate ganache is incredible and the pink Himalayan salt sprinkled atop is just... 🤤 All this sitting in a pool of salted caramel sauce (delicious, but I could have easily done without) and served with coconut ice cream. Give. Me. Moarrr.
You can also order the whole cake for $96. My only question is... does it come with a tub of the coconut ice cream?
$52 - 9" square kek
$15 - extra toffee sauce
Ahh, the perfect thing to pull out of the fridge, cut a piece, warm up in the microwave oven and collapse in front of the TV with after a long day at work. (Of course, also good fresh)
The cake is airy, soft and not too sweet with a side of homemade-nomnomness. Also, the toffee sauce is deeeeeelish. You defo want to get extra. Have it with or without your freezer staple of vanilla ice cream. This is such a treat!
Such a cute little pumpkin dessert on the Yayoi Special Menu! Made up of coconut mousse, mango curd & cubes, pumpkin sponge and a base of pumpkin biscuit. YUM.
Ah Matchaya, always a treat. I heard they had a new mystery flavour: Lavender - so we had to head down to Icon Village to try it. Smooth and creamy as always, this was beaming with the floral flavour of lavender. Also ordered my favourite flavour and soft serve staple, matcha. I love the intensity (and bitterness) of the matcha - perfect for the matcha purist.
Back at it with yet another round of bingsu. It was only ok, I preferred the red bean one that we had the last time we came here. Somehow the mochi this time was quite firm and took a lot of effort to eat. Maybe just a one off!
Ventured away from my usual matcha (and mystery flavour because we weren't at ICON) and tried the Hokkaido milk and houjicha mix ($1). The Hokkaido milk was creamy but not too rich or sweet - great for the milk lover. The houjicha though, that was a winner for me. Roasty and smoky 🤤. Also we got the extra rice puffs ($1.50) and upsized it ($2) to share.
Decided to break away from my standard order of injeolmi bingsu and went with the smoky nutty flavour of the Snowflake Black Sesame bingsu. It was very nice - finely shaved milky ice, generous blob of red bean paste, lots of toasted almond slices and mochi pieces.
I think the injeolmi is still my fave but I would defo have this again. 👍🏼
It's been a good long while since I last had windowsill pies. Decided against my usual order of grasshopper pie and went with the pineapple passionfruit yogurt which really took me by surprise. The filling was so refreshing, slightly tangy and not too sweet. Even the yogurt covered muesli bites on the too were a nice added crunch. A new fave!
The pumpkin pecan was recommended by the lady serving us. This pie was deeper in flavour, rich and almost coffee like. It had a brown sugar base filling, a cinnamony pumpkin purée on top with a layer of crushed pecans in between.
The pineapple passionfruit was definitely my favourite of the two. My only note was that the pastry for both pies were only ok - a bit on the drier side. Otherwise, the fillings were winning.

I think there are very few things that a bowl of soup cannot fix. That, or gin.
