Back to Joo Bar but this time without burpplebeyond - of course the tofu chips was the first thing I ordered (as usual). I was questioned by dining companion, visiting Joo Bar for the first time, if the chips were really made with tofu. I agreed that it’s hard to imagine how the soft protein could be transformed into these crispy deep fried chips but all I know was the lighter chips with kimchi and avocado salsas was an item I’d order again.
On this visit I tried the honey butter chicken which were fried chicken chunk drenched in a buttery honey sauce; all I was reminded of was Chir Chir fried honey butter chicken without so much sauce but of much better value if I remembered right.
Had the green grape makgeolli ($22 for small), honey butter chicken ($18), some spicy chicken ($18) and tofu chips ($14). The honey butter chicken was really sweet and we didn’t enjoy it as much as the others! The green grape makgeolli was like a slushie and did not have much alcoholic taste! It was quite nice tho :)

It had me at the first bite; I was literally exclaiming how could this be so delicious. It is rare to find chips that are crispy and yet not too oily. What's more is the guacamole and kimchi salsa that came along with it, totally made my night. Definitely a must visit place, good food and drinks!!
On this episode of Burpple Beyond, I got a taste of legit Korean AnJu snacks.
However the tofu chips were made- they were divine, crisp like biscuits but with the softness of tofu embodied concurrently. What does that even mean you definitely have to order them here to find.
For the 1 for 1 mains, we had a slight difficult to gnaw but absolutely tasty Galbi. What I loved was the melt in your mouth fat with soft delicious steamed meat in the pork belly of the Bossam; paired with tangibly declicious Korean sides.
Burpple Beyond gives you leeway to order the yummy Maekgeolli here too- que *Dae Bak*

Absolutely loved the pork belly, it got all our votes! The layer of fats albeit looks a little intimidating, has a slight delectable chew and releases the aroma of the meat as you chew on. The meat portion is tender &has light grilled taste to it. BELLY PERFECT! Only wishing that there’s more slices!
Also recommended would be the Yuzu Makgeolli! They brew their own makgeolli &it’s blended with ice, making it extremely refreshing in our climate.
The risotto is done to perfection; that texture of the rice grains, the huge ratio of seafood to carbs. Good main to share around!
*Skip the tofu chips thou, not fascinating. They’re like Ritz’ toasted chips with a slightly undercooked centre. MEH.
The naming of the "humchi" crackles me up but it's actually the most important component that binds everything together. If you are a fan of Korean food and Middle-Eastern, you would have probably guessed that the humchi is actually hummus and kimchi. The fried tofu chips act as a vessel to scoop up the humchi before transporting into your mouth for an explosion of flavours.

Slightly too salty for me but it was an interesting to have dips like avocado and Kimchi. Joo bar is a Korean fusion bar that serves really interesting food! Great ambience too. Will definitely be back.
Shrimp, black mussel, clam and squid tossed in lime, crushed black pepper and kimchi jus. Served with house-made tofu chips.
Spicy-tangy ceviche with crunchy tofu chips. The perfect appetizer or bar snack imo.
In fact, the tofu chips are good on its own and very addictive! Can't stop munching on those hexagonal chips!
