Why my plate doesn't have the fancy brushed soy sauce? Anyway, I get the hype. Two types of wanton, good lard, self-respecting char siew and heavy seasoning. But long queue and grumpy owner.
The char siew was exceptionally good, while the noodles, sauce and the fried wantons were just alright. Overall, an above average-tasting meal - though I am unlikely to return as I find it to be a little pricey ($8).
Other than the Janggut Laksa, we got ourselves a plate of wanton noodles from Bei-Ing Wanton Noodles. The queue took a while, but unfortunately, we werenβt quite fans. The egg noodles did have a decent bite, but are tossed in a dark sauce and chili combi that was more sweet. Char siew slices were the lean sort, and even though the taste was not bad, we found them too chewy. Wantons were average, we preferred the boiled ones to the fried ones.
Been wanting to try this forever βΎ got it just before HA hits πhidden inside Roxy square, itβs a East Coast hidden gem π!

They are established in 1984 but improved their recipe and kept up with modern times with a simple yet beautiful swipe of sauce platingβ€οΈ I love their in-house char siew which is roasted yet still soft π would love the noodles to be slightly more al dente for a smoothier pull and softer bite π€but overrall the sauce, chilli, fried wanton the whole dish is put together very nicely βΊοΈπ would go back again!!

For chicken feet lovers π you can get their braised chicken feet separately at $8 π absolutely love it so satisfying π!
Crispy shell plumped up with juicy pork and fresh prawn thatβs so, so, so succulent. Served with truffle infused Mayo and a serving of ketchup - Iβd say, skip the ketchup and head straight for the truffle Mayo. You donβt need ketchup to taint the wonderful aroma of truffle!! Love how thoughts have been put into the plating, with fried wanton noodles beneath the fried dumplings, creating a βnest bedβ - these fried wanton strings can be pretty addictive too!
Ps: Thereβs also the option of fried wantons but... you should really try the dumplings first!! βAs recommended by the first-gen hawker owner himself!
Charsiew wanton noodles with thiccc juicy charsiew in glossy red gravy (not the dry-looking and thinly sliced meat!) Comes with fried wanton too!! Love the thicccc gravy served generously with the noodles. It might be a tad too salty if you donβt mix well. So be patient and mix it proper βΊοΈ
Dumpling wanton noodles was served with plump dumplings, stuffed with minced meat and fresh prawns.
βAlso topped with some greens to balance the meal.
Note: There used to be $4 and $5 options but now itβs a standard $6! Portion was pretty huge tho
Do also try the fried dumplings! (Go for the dumplings and not the wantons, as recommended by the stall owner himself!)
