This old school bakery has been around since the 1960s.
Some of their popular Confectionery are their coconut tarts and their colorful cakes.
This time around, decided to try their other Confectionery items
1) Egg Tarts
- not bad, egg pudding was sweet and jellyicious, crust was crunchy. Overall not bad.
2) Custard Puffs
- the custard is the old school style, thick and sweet. Rather easy to get addicted to this
3) Banana Cake
- moist and soft. The banana cake was rather fragrant as well. Can try.
Here I go again ... ...
These lovely yellow coconut tarts look like pretty sunflowers .
So moist in the middle and crusty on the outside .
Really really good ......
For die hard fans of old school type bakeries
For those of you who relish a taste of the past and delight in really good butter cakes , Marble cakes , eggs tarts and coconut tarts , you gotta head down here now !!!!!
The bakery’s name is a little mis - leading i must say because this bakery is not in Sembawang but in Beach Road . It’s just a few steps from the golden mile ( other wise know as army market ) Hawker . Ask your way around because it can be a little confusing as the bakery is hidden at a corner .
The smell of the tart was so alluring that I had to take a huge bite of it only to show how good it really is ..... it is that good ......
For those of you following my writings , I once raced about Dong po’s coconut tarts but these days they tend to be pretty dry and slightly over baked sometimes .
I think Sembawang bakery hails as my go- to place for my coconut tarts now. Prices are much more affordable too :)
The tart crust is perfect - has that lovely authentic buttery aroma and very crisp and light while the coconut filling is so moist and not sweet at all . It is perfect and better still if you eat it warm ( and I had the privilege to since they came out of the oven not too Long Ago ).
You should also grab a couple of their butter cakes because they are so fine as soft and they use quality butter so you won’t get the imposter “ butter “ cakes like you get in most neighbourhood bakeries .
Do get a couple of their home made Hainanese style buns ( with different fillings ) because they are so hard to come by these days ..... soft , sweet and airy :)
So fluffy and healthy - like clouds !
While most would go goo ga ga over European pastries and cakes , I choose local bakeries anytime .
I love Sembawang bakery's selection of old school cakes and I used to have their old fashioned butter walnut cakes and marble cakes quite a bit until the business was sold and the standard was not as before .
But I am pleased to say that upon revisiting this bakery today ( and I am so Glad I did ! ) , I fell in love with their cakes all over again . It is now as good as before .
Very happy to find a rare selection today - the oat sponge cakes which were so light and fluffy and nutty in flavour and the cream was just thin enough to bind the 2 layers of cakes together .
Also, Rather than going for the hyped up hiap Joo banana cake across the causeway ( which I tried and didn't like the bitter aftertaste of the baking soda which was too prevalent ) - I like Sembawang's version anytime not only because I like to support our local small bakeries but also because the banana cakes here are so moist and soft and much superior .
Am falling in love all over again with this bakery 😍
These traditional butter cream cakes were pleasantly delectable. Was impressed with how soft and fluffy the sponge cakes were when we cut into them. These were their classic chocolate and "traffic light" cakes. Liked that the taste was non-complicated yet enjoyable with that buttery cream topping.
They are also good for their traditional butter, walnut and banana cakes which are worth checking out.
