šBao Makers, Westgateš
šø Bao Set: $16
...
A rare trip to the west and we were wandering in Westgate trying to figure out what to eat when we chanced upon Bao MakersšHave to say the Bao Set is really quite value for money as it comes with 3 Baos + house salad + iced citrus teašš»Their signature Chilli Crab Baoš¦was packed full of crab meat mixed with chilli crab sauce and sandwiched between a crispy fried mantou- probably our favourite and somewhat similar to dipping our fried mantou in a Chilli Crab zichar dish without having to deal with all the crab shellsšWe also couldnāt resist the Salmon Mentaiko Baoš£coz weāre a fan of all things mentaiko- the sauce paired really well with the fried salmon and didnāt feel overly jelatāŗļøFor the vegetarian option, you could go for the Truffle Mushroom Baoš Special mention goes to the House Saladš„ which had this sauce that we love!!š„°
despite the uniqueness of the flavours, they are a hit or miss, gotta get the right ones!! tried chilli crab, truffle mushroom and salted egg chicken!
the best for me was the chilli crab bao. generously stuffed with crabmeat and the sauce was so good - on the sweeter side but still carried a decent spicy kick. truffle mushroom was really decent too!! had a distinct truffle flavour and the mushroom was still juicy despite being fried. salted egg chicken bao left a lot to be desired though. chicken was perfect texture-wise, crispy exterior and tender, but unfortunately tasteless. flavour was solely from the salted egg sauce but there wasnāt enough to coat the entire piece of chicken.
Cheap deal from chope deal.
2bao and 1 lychee tea drink for $7.50.
Usual price is 9.50 before tax.
this is the first time giving their mains a go and honestly, just stick to the baos š„ got the crab pasta and steak pasta, both were very underwhelming. the baos however were good as always, chili crab ones are crispy and the others filled with mentaiko goodness!
Terriyaki chicken rice bowl ($9.90) their terriyaki was juicy and pretty damn good. Onsen egg was also on-point and really added another dimension to the otherwise sweet terriyaki sauce. Portion wise it was a decent meal. It also came with a salad that is well pretty ordinary.
Just found out recently that thereās Bao Makers in Westgate, so my friends and I decided to try their Nanban Chicken, Salted Egg Chicken and Chilli Crab baos. We agreed that they were all tasty! One bao wonāt be that filling, but it surely is a good light meal option š
