Lunch / 11 Jan 2018: kakigori on a cold rainy afternoon is always a happy affair, esp the pretty decent one here. It’s really sad that there’s so many bingsu shops here but so few kakigori’s. Can someone bring in more kakigori flavours pls?
Whilst the apex chocolate cube tasted cheaper than a Serangoon Road roadside knockoff and the flavours at hand are much richer than their usual kakigori offerings, the Chocolate Delight (with a chocolate ice cream core, no less) should provide a reasonable cocoa-laden diversion from the heat. 3.4/5
Finally got to try another house specialty at Babao during our latest visit - DURIAN SAGO. This is not any durian sago that you will get elsewhere, using real puree and chunky flesh of D24, every spoon is full of authenticity and richness. Guaranteed that it will be as satisfied as eating freshly opened durian.

I love the fact that it’s not too sweet and full of matcha. Will be back to try the others. #tingzieeats #burpple #throwback
Babao Dessert serves up traditional Chinese desserts kakigori, which is essentially Japan’s answer to Singapore’s ice kachang. The two versions that were a hit with us were Babao’s cocoa and mango kakigori.
The mango kakigori is delightfully fruity and sweet with the mango infused ice, and there’s massive chunks of mango within all that ice. The creamy and mildly sweet non-dairy cream on top of every kakigori helps to make the dessert richer and more indulgent.
The cocoa kakigori is basically just milo shaved ice. That’s not a bad thing, however, as it’s rich and chocolatey, and there’s even a few milo nuggets buried within! It’s a bit like a chocolate ice cream, but a lot thinner and free of dairy. Not bad at all.
This is even far better than the best matcha bingsu we have tried. Half the price of a typical bingsu, at only $8.80 👍🏻. Intense bitter-sweet matcha taste, more towards the authentic bitter matcha powder 👍🏻. Layer of red bean hidden beneath was perfectly cooked with mild sweetness 👍🏻. Topping with foam like non-dairy creamer, which was so light and combines so well with refreshing shaved ice 👍🏻 lastly, pieces of mini mochi to finish the bowl 👍🏻😍😍😍 it’s definitely a MUST. I would be willing to travel all the way from west when the craving comes
