Yuzu season has returned to Boulangerie Asanoya!

Great for tea time, their seasonal Yuzu Bread Series is back with a nice selection of bakes. Summer-y and refreshing, the Yuzu Cruffin ($5.50) embellished with crunchy chopped nuts was as good as I imagine it to be. The smooth yuzu cream filling had a good zing amidst the sweetness and as expected of the croissant-and-muffin hybrid, the exterior was flaky as well as buttery. Similarly, the Yuzu Cream Cheese Danish ($5.00) had a wonderful bite as the buttery layers were so very light and flaky. There was also a good dose of tanginess as the yuzu cream cheese was both distinctly citrusy and savoury. The Karuizawa Yuzu Summer ($3.50), on the other hand, was milder in flavour and soft. Lastly, with specks of tea leaves infused into the dough to add a unique twist, the hearty-looking Yuzu Royal Milk Tea Loaf ($5.80) was not too dense. The yuzu-glazed bread held a subtle whiff of tea and delicate citrus notes. However, a little insipid, the flavours could definitely be more intense in my opinion.

Like a bread care pack for the whole family, Asanoya Signatures $30 Bundle sees 8 of their bestsellers in a single set. One for everyone, the assortment of fresh bakes sees a nice variety. For a sweet afternoon tea break, there are all classic options like the An Pan, sugar-crusted Melon Pan, Pain Au Chocolat, and two slices of Matcha Karuizawa. Whilst the fragrant Curry Donut, flaky Camembert Bacon Croissant, and French Potato served as hearty savouries that pair well with a morning cup of coffee. My absolute favourite being the carb-on-carb combo of the French Potato! Stuffed with an entire baked potato, the French bread was so buttery and crusty on the outside - well worth the calories. And the layer of creamy mayonnaise was like the literal icing on the cake as it was perfectly umami.

This asanoya seal looked quite cute - don't you think?

However, it had a huge episode of dark chocolate diarrhea after the staff popped it into the microwave.

🥨Coated with rainbow sprinkles, the White Christmas Choco Pretzel was sweet and chewy with a slight hint of saltiness.

🍞Holiday Gingerbread had a cakey texture, boosted by a heady but not overwhelming taste of spices.

⛄Ichigo Snowman, after a quick reheating, was sweet, soft, and somewhat fluffy. The strawberry ganache filling was relatively thick, didn’t taste artificial, and was not too cloying.

🍋 A refreshing number, the Lemon Custard Fruit Tart could afford to be more tangy, in my opinion. The soft custard was smooth and paired up nicely with the fresh fruits as well the crisp-crumbly base.

🍵 Matcha love for the Matcha Christmas Donut, the bittersweetness was distinct and likewise not jelat. The donut texture was also more than decent after a quick pop into the microwave.

🎄 A seasonal must-have, their Small Christmas Panettone was surprisingly good. Studded with candied citron, the texture was great and the classic flavours were wonderfully balanced.

🍅 The Rosemary Focaccia delivered a nice change amidst the range of sweets. Rather savoury and a little herbaceous, the bread was soft and went swimmingly with the tender juicy cherry tomatoes.

not bad kinda oily a bit overpriced but tasted good and oniony, with a slightly sweet taste that complemented the salty cheese and sausage! ambience is worth paying for at this cafe where you can sit and catch up with your friends or do some studying/work. 1h free wifi per purchase! remember to ask them for the wifi when you’re ordering.
