There’s a few stalls that sell lor mee here and Queen Street Orchid Lor Mee is one of them.

Managed by auntie that preparing your order patiently behind. There’s options of fish, chicken or pork to go with the noodle.

There’s also 2 kinds of fish to choose from, which is either batang or dory. I gotten myself the fried dory.

It comes with other ingredient also. I just find the gravy is more diluted for me. But taste wise still okay.

After searching for the most authentic Penang Hokkien Mee in Singapore, I can gladly to say that I have finally found it at this stall named the Penang Man.

Yes, I was so skeptical when this stall was introduced to me. I have been to a few disappointing trips to many other stalls that sell Penang style of Hokkien Mee, which most of them close but not tasty as what I can get in Penang.

So finally made my way here and totally excited once I have my first taste of it. The taste totally brings back my love and memory of Penang Hokkien Mee.

I would announce that this is serves the best and most authentic Penang Hokkien Mee that close to my home and childhood taste.

101 Fried Carrot Cake at Albert Centre provides a decent orh luak 101. 101’s orh luak is of the moister variety, although not as wet as Lim’s Fried Oyster. There are a couple of crispy bits lurking around in this messy, mouthwatering mound, but it’s soft & gooey from the fried tapioca starch mixed with a decent amount of eggs. For ten bucks flat I got ten oysters on this hot heap of eggy & starchy goodness, and it was so sinful yet so right.⠀

The oysters were plump, fresh and fried till just about cooked, minimising shrinkage. The briny bursts of the oyster gelled well with the gooey starchy bits and fluffy eggy omelette bits, but combined with the oil used to fry everything, it can and does get monotonous & overly cloying. That’s where the scintillatingly spicy & sour chili sauce comes in to enliven everything with its spiciness. Its sourness also rinses off all the grease from all that gooey fried goodness and keeps your tastebuds sharp, and the garlic notes round off the savouriness of the entire dish.⠀

At just $10, the fact that you can get an orh luak 101 crash course at 101 Fried Carrot Cake is pretty neat, and it’s why we need to keep Singapore’s hawker culture alive & well.

Plain Prata & Egg Prata, fresh off the grill pan.
Curry is slighty earthy, spicy and warming for the morning.
Nearby milk tea for pairing.

Ordered the Shredded Chicken Ipoh Hor Fun ($4).

The amount of chicken was generous but the sauce was taste kind of bland. The Kway Teow amount is not a lot.

I have been reading how popular this soup is and finally decided to go for it. I ordered the mixed seafood soup ($5.50) and the soup is really nice and seafood is fresh. Now I understand why the queue for it.
