After a long day of walking around and coffee sampling, we can't think of anything better than sitting down with a Pat and Stick's Homemade Ice Cream Co's ice cream sandwich. Actually...we can. Make that a real treat with a cup of perfect hot chocolate and chai! You'll feel like a happy kid after a long day out.

With really reasonable prices, you can get Chocolate Lava cake ($3.80) and a coffee, or a dinner of tasty Grilled Pandan Chicken Chop ($8.90). Along with great ambience and service, there's no reason you shouldn't drop by this lovely cafe if you live nearby. Photo by Elaine Koh

I've always eaten the cakes and pastry here and this is the first time I've eaten lunch and it's very good. Tender and tasty beef stew goes well with rice or pasta.

One of my favourites from the cakes tasting I did at work last week, this good-looking confection isn't just sugary sweet and layers of colouring – it's super moist with a subtle flavour of passionfruit that keeps it interesting and refreshing.

Touted by some to be the best in Singapore, though I propose a worthier contender in Babette's version. Mine came undercooked so it was dribbling molten green tea from the top of the cake instead of from the middle. I definitely want to give their white chocolate taro lava cake a go next time, though!

Jajangmyeon is the Korean version of Chinese ZhaJiang Noodles 炸醬麵. Chunky, savory black bean sauce noodles with diced meat and vegetables was simple, and not that interesting to me, actually won over my heart. The sauce was savoury-sweet and full-flavoured after mixing well with the noodles, it become my comfort food at its best.

PB chocolate cake and salted caramel rainbow cake. Pretty decent cakes that are super photogenic. They served grounded pleasures iced chocolates. Yummm my fave brand so far. Hehe. Service have to improve though. No one came to serve or sit us. And when asked about cakes/food/drinks staff doesn't seem happy explaining. Sigh.

Who DOESN'T need some fried chicken in the wee hours of the morning? Thankfully, there's Kko Kko Na Ra to provide just that. Specialising in what they call 'KFC' (Korean Fried Chicken), their famous wings come in 4 flavours - original, soy garlic sauce, sweet & spicy, and hot & spicy. For a taste of everything, get their chicken combo set, which comes in original/ sweet/ garlic flavours. They only close at 3am - a great place to quell those late-night, post drinking hunger pangs.

Their branches at Harding Road, Ann Siang Hill Park, and Palais Renaissance only close their doors at 1-2am on Fridays and Saturdays, providing a lovely cafe environment for supper indulgence. Have a couple of drinks enjoyed with their signature tarts, cakes, and puddings. What a way to wind down after a long week!

The clever lads of Stranger's Reunion have made their best-selling buttermilk waffles the main act at Waffle Slayer just next door. Serving up flavour combinations of all kinds, get adventurous with the squid ink or matcha waffles. If you'd rather stick to the plain buttermilk, go for the chicken shnitzel with kaffir lime mayo. While they are pretty pricey, the combinations are worth a try! Photo by Charlene Tan

Incredibly spacious and conveniently located in Lasalle College of the Arts, this is a good spot for working in groups in a vibrant atmosphere. Great for grabbing wallet-friendly light bites for lunch or tea time, or evening drinks with a cold cider, you can come here anytime.
