One of the best risotto dishes I had in my life.
The Ink Risotto and Purple Octopus was perfectly balanced and well-seasoned. The risotto had slight hints of the sea yet had an earthy tone due to the pickled shimeji mushrooms. The octopus was wonderfully cooked as it had a good bite and wasn't too chewy. On top of it all, a saffron lemon curd lent fresh notes to the dish giving it a great overall balance.
After years of perfecting its recipe, New Rasa Singapura put out the best kambing soup.
The gelatinous-like tenderness of the lamb makes this New Rasa Soup Kambing ($14/24++) stand out from the rest. The rich broth comes in three levels of spiciness (original, spicy or crazy spicy)! Obviously, we went for crazy spicy cos I live for spicy food.
The restaurant aims to be identified as a place which serves awesome Singaporean food with twist. These include Angoli fish head curry, beef rendang, Hainanese chicken rice, dry laksa and another of my favourites, black pepper char kway teow.
New Rasa Singapura is a social enterprise that is part of the #FestivalForGood initiative by @raiSEsg. With every $50 spent in the month of August, you enjoy a $10 return voucher. So what are you waiting for?
Thank you Josephine for hosting us and as well as Burpple for the invite!
Wee Nam Kee's chicken rice was a childhood favourite of mine. I was devastated when I found out that Novena Ville was being vacated and torn down. Where would it go? 😢
Luckily, they opened a fancier outlet across the road at United Square since then. I'm happy to report that the quality has not gone down one bit. My steamed chicken drumstick rice ($5.30) was still as good as I remembered it to be. The chicken rice was piping hot and fragrant. The chicken meat and skin were tender and silky respectively while the sauce just enhances the flavour by multifold. Also, I'm surprised the price hasn't gone up much making it still very affordable for an air-conditioned, full-serviced restaurant.
Are you here at Epicurean Market? The fourth edition is bigger and better. For $35, enjoy this gastronomic extravaganza with dishes served from some of the top restaurants in the world. Also, visit the Farmer's Market for the freshest produce and participate in masterclasses conducted by top chefs.

Thank you Tino's Pizza Cafe for hosting us and Burpple for the invite!
Been living the healthy lifestyle after spending a whole day out playing Pokémon Go!
I ordered in a few hearty sandwiches for my hunting party from Cedele using Deliveroo. The slow cooked pulled pork (S$8.50) was tender and had a hefty chunk of avocado. The Three-some (S$9.50) had my protein favourites: turkey, ham and bacon. Though they were just light sandwiches, they were satisfying and nutritious. I'm glad to have such healthy options available for delivery!
This upcoming week (8-14th Aug) is Deliveroo's Café Week! Enjoy set meals for 2 at only $25 and for 4 at only $45 and participating cafés. Reward yourself by ordering in because you deserve the best!

Milkshop is having a Burpple promo! Simply quote "MilkshopxBurpple" and either Like or Follow its Facebook/Instagram account to enjoy a 1-for-1 drink from today till 31st Sep 2016! T&Cs apply.
Milkshop opened its doors at Tiong Bahru Plaza recently in May. It specialises in serving nutritious and milk-based beverages using only natural ingredients. Instead of asking for your preferred sugar level, they ask how much honey you would like in your drink.
Quench your thirst or cravings with bestsellers like Papaya Milk, Tomato Milk, Chocolate Banana Milk, Guan-Yin Latte and Mango Smoothie. I personally loved the iced Guan-Yin Latte. It's an oolong tea that resembles green tea but with a delicate roasted aroma. It was highly refreshing and light which is untypical for a milk drink!
Feeling aimless in life now that McDonald's has ceased its Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Burgers? Fear not for The Quarters has come up with its own rendition - The Real McCoy (S$16 but for a limited time, it's S$14!)
As pictured, there is no shortage of salted egg yolk sauce in this burger and it's more velvety compared to the McD's counterpart. However, the star of this dish would be the crispy fried oat-battered chicken thigh! It owes its flavour to being marinated for 24 hours in a secret local spice mix.
Thank you Burpple for the invite for the Tastemakers Eatup and Chef Deming for hosting us!
I opted for a good ol' burger and my favourite kind, beef chilli! The Beef Chilli Burger (S$18.73) from Nickeldime Drafthouse was fantastic. The restaurant specialises in beef infused food items - the beef chilli, the cheese and candied bacon in my burger were infused with beer. YUM. It also had iceberg lettuce, tomatoes and jalapeños between the homemade buns, which ensured that every bite was utmost satisfaction. (Oh and garlic fries not included, was just being greedy as usual.)

I was craving some good ol' Hokkien mee so I went down to Chomp Chomp.
While scouring for seats, I noticed that there were many unfinished red plates of Hokkien mee (from the famous Ah Hock stall). A bit troubled, I decided to go for its lesser known-green plate counterpart, Chia Keng (S$3/4/5).
Totally no regrets! I loved the consistency throughout the sauce and noodles. It was a bit wet but still had that charred flavour. The prawns were fresh even at night. The chili was so damn super Shiok and the lard was crisply delicious (duh!)
My party actually ordered a second $5 plate amongst other things because it was so good. However, the second one didn't taste as amazing as the first plate. Law of marginal diminishing returns? Or just inconsistency?
Having le famous KL Claypot Pearl Noodles (RM 9/13/18).
The restaurant probably named the dish as such because Claypot Lao Shu Fen (which translates to Rat Powder) can be quite off-putting. If you don't mind the dilapidated setting of the old restaurant, you're in for good meal.
Upon mixing the yolk and heaves of minced pork, you get a beautiful viscous sauce that coats the silver needle noodles. The texture was firm yet silky which made it extremely palatable. It was so good that my party of three and two medium-sized bowls even though we had other dishes like prawn paste chicken (another recommendation!) and stir fried veggies. #Burpproved!
Wish I had more time, money and stomach space.
When I stepped into Jaslyn Cakes, I turned into my younger self. A kid so filled with excitement upon seeing rows and rows of cakes, pastries and desserts and I had my finger in every pie. Literally.
Every thing I tried was on point, the carrot cake, the salted caramel chocolate tarts and the butterscotch brownies.
In the shop, there is a workstation where you can see bakers strut their stuff. They use natural and quality ingredients like organic flour, free range kampung eggs.
I'll definitely be back here to have more. #Burpproved
