Sweet and Sour Fish with Rice, or⦠is it? Found this vegetarian cafe with really affordable prices near our weekend hood! Nestled deep within a HDB estate, the place is really conducive for a catch up with friends and the prices here are really affordable. This lunch set only costs $7.90!
I also like that the food is freshly cooked to order so you can be assured that your meal comes piping hot! The fried fish also got me confused a little because it didnāt taste vegetarian at all. But one gripe that I have is that they forgot my egg despite me paying that additional dollar extra š
@ginettsingapore is a perfect spot to impress your half other with its ambience and the quality of food served. We had the Wild Mushroom Risotto and dare I say it is one of the best that I have had. The earthy tone of the mushrooms was complemented well by the savouriness of the cheese and the colourful pops of vegetables helped to clean your palate for the next bite. Amazing.
We also had the Croque Monsieur which could get a little bit jelak. The portion size is huge and while the first few mouthfuls were great, it gets a bit one dimensional after a while, the fries were great though! Recommend that you share this if you are ordering it.
Where is your go to place when you crave for some authentic China Chinese cuisine? We finally tried äøåå°åØ along Upper Cross Street after passing by it for a couple of year š
Stepping into the eatery is like stepping into a teleportation machine that instantly teleports you into China! It looks like a Chinese eatery, smells like one and sounds like one too. Talk about authenticity!
The Hot & Sour Shredded Potatoes and Szechuan Spicy Popcorn Chicken tasted exactly like the ones that I got in šØš³ Step into this China away from China if you are craving for authentic Chinese cuisine.
Itās quite ironic how my wedding preparations took me to places where I continue to indulge in good food š
This stall way up in the north has been saved on my to-go list for a while now but itās extremely remote location meant that I didnāt bother visiting it until recently when I went to get my shirts altered.
I have read good things about the char siu here on multiple blogs and was really excited to find myself here. Being a sio bak fan, I had to try their version as well.
But really, the char siu here is the main star of the place. I think I was really lucky too, to get a cut that came with a good fat to meat ratio. The sauce was great as well, not overly sweet to mask the taste of the meat. I love that the rice that came with it is the seasoned rice, those that is served when you order chicken rice. So thatās a win already.
I would definitely see myself coming back here again and I would go so far as to say that donāt be like me, make a purposeful trip here to try this for yourself. No regrets!

Normally, I wouldnāt use the word āheartyā to describe vegetarian food but this definitely fits the bill. The Herbal Mushroom Hotpot certainly warmed the soul and the use of Charcoal actually elevated the fragrance of the soup. We also love the deep fried wanton that came with the hotpot; so much so that the staff told us not to publicise it too much in case his chef gets angry! š¤ Each wanton is handmade by the chef and comes chockfull of ingredients before before deep fried to perfection. Donāt worry about it being soggy in the hotpot, they were still crisp when we dug into it!
We also had the Xing Hua beehoon and I must say that despite its humble appearance, it tasted pretty good, especially after mixing in the seaweed, which lends a more savoury touch to the beehoon. A smart move by the chef! And of course not to mention the generous portion as well as the amount of ingredients it came with.
We also tried the Crispy Roast āPorkā which confused us a little š handmade from crispy soy skin and lion mane mushroom, this really resembled its actual counterpart. Pair it with the sweet sauce and wrap it with the lettuce and you get a different form of enjoyment. 2 tastes in 1 dish!
The Sweet Potato Ring was something different that we had. Usually this would be a yam ring but the restaurant had a different take on this traditional dish.
Overall, a really good vegetarian place that I will visit again if Iām craving for vegetarian or if Iām dining with friends who are vegetarian/vegan.
Iām always in a rush when I find myself at Chinatown š so Iām glad that the new Oldtown Coffee Concept Store at Chinatown Point, Oldtown Express, is a grab and go kind of joint! Now I can fill my stomach and get my caffeine fix despite my busy schedule. And donāt say bojio! Enjoy selected $4 beverages and $7 Flower Bun Sets from now till 31 Jan 2022. I love the flavours of the Curry Flower Bun! To be frank, I wasnāt expecting much but the curry contained within is super flavourful, definitely not something you would expect from a grab and go joint.
Christmas might be over but the feasting doesnāt have to stop! Pimping up its signature dishes, the Original White Beehoon and Signature Mala White Beehoon are dressed up with Christmas staples like turkey and āmini lobstersā. There is also the FlambĆ© Honey-Smoked Turkey Breast ($15.80) which reminds us of Char Siew but with a leaner touch. A little more atas than its porky counterpart, this is set on fire and flambĆ©ed in front of diners upon order; a treat for both the eyes and lips.
Another new creation is the Wok-fried Australian Asparagus with Walnuts ($15.00). Australian asparagus sliced up before stir-fried with shiitake mushrooms and fragrant roasted walnuts. An Asian twist to a western staple that is well received!
The restaurantās namesake gets a luxe update with the Tiger Prawn and Turkey White Beehoon ($17.80). Fresh tiger prawns are cooked in the gravy of the White Beehoon for an extra layer of sea sweetness before turkey slices are added Diners can also opt for a switch to the Mala White Beehoon at no extra cost. If prawns are not your thing, there is also the Crawfish & Turkey Mala White Beehoon ($15.80) which will sit well with spice and seafood lovers. The crawfish lends a festive feel to the Signature Mala White Beehoon. The original portion of this comes with 8 crawfish but check out White Restaurantās TikTok channel for a hack to get a free upgrade to a larger portion with 12 crawfish.
If the new offerings and the restaurant's many dishes has left your mind boggled, fret not! There are a couple of set menus available as well. A set for 5 persons is priced at $108 and is available from 9 Nov 2021 ā 2 Jan 2022. This includes the FlambĆ© Honey-Smoked Turkey Breast (M), Wok-Fried Australian Asparagus with Walnut (M), Cabbage with Bacon in Double Broth (M), Tiger Prawn and Turkey White Beehoon (L) and Glutinuous Rice Balls (peanut filling) coated with peanut (5 pcs). There is also an Online Exclusive Christmas Set priced at $135.30, available during the same period. Hit up @whitebeehoonrestaurant for more deets. Futhermore, enjoy $8 OFF this online exclusive Christmas Set with promo code āXMAS8OFFā at check out on Oddle, don't say bojio!
The Mango Pomelo Sago ($5.80/M) has changed my thinking! I never thought that I would like the cup form of this dessert but this changed my mind! 𤯠I love how generous they were with the amount of mango, pomelo and sago given. I also love how the grapefruit meat and mochi bits that were thrown in helped elevate this.
For the Christmas season, you can also look forward to their Cream Cheese Grape Tea, which is launching next week. Resembling a slushy, this is a perfect weapon to combat the recent heat wave. The pretty gradients in this drink is also supposed to resemble a š! The cream cheese is supposed to represent the snow while the green grape yogurt is the grass and the aiyu jelly, the land. How creative!
Another drink that we had was the Aiyu Jelly Lemon Tea ($5.50/M). We had this at 0% sugar and it was super refreshing, you could distinctly make out the tangy and citrusy notes of the lemon which was balanced out by the mild sweetness of the aiyu jelly; a guilt free indulgence!
The Kotteri, was lighter in comparison than the truffle one, but was also rich enough on its own. A really comforting bowl!
Long time followers here would know that truffle is not my kind of thing but this bowl of Truffle Ramen, I can do 𤤠Limited to only 20 bowls per day, the rich tonkotsu broth that already comes with truffle oil is served with an additional dollop of truffle jelly, made from truffle paste, on top. This elevates the already rich and creamy broth to another level. Recommended!
