This was the last cookie, and the staff really kindly gave it to me for free, thank you soooo much! I felt really, really bad but I enjoyed it so much and was really, really happy on the inside 😂 It was a much needed pick-me-up after my day. Don't be deceived by its appearance, because I expected the cookie to be very crunchy, but it was actually really chewy yet firm to the bite. I think they used a mix of old fashioned rolled oats as well as steel cut oats to get the texture of the cookie which was more chewy than crunchy. (And as someone who lovesss chewy cookies this was a win for me.) This tastes SO MUCH better than Subway Oatmeal Cookies, and they were super generous with the raisins inside the cookie that every bite had a few pieces. Not only do they make a hella good toast, they also make a lot of other yummy bakes. Their bakes are rotational, so expect something different every week!
Missing this lovely toast I had last week. The addition of sage into the cream cheese was subtle, and paired together with their homemade berry compote that wasn't overly sweet, with a adequate amount of tang, made this a really homely combination. I love how they make the toppings not overly fanciful, but really as authentic and organic as possible. And their Sourdough is sooo good, it's perfectly crisp on the outside and yet just chewy and airy enough on the inside. I wanted to get a loaf that day but they were all sold out!!! (You really have to get there early to get your hands on one!) 🍞
Although these 🍑 peach-shaped paus were already unbelievably cute, it was this tear shot which made it form a ❤️ heart shape which truly made me go 'Awwww'. It's rare to come across handmade paus nowadays, but they always (in my opinion) taste better than the packaged ones. I think it really is the effort and love the Uncle puts in to make the pau that makes it taste good. The paus here are really tiny tho - so be sure to get a couple to fill you up!
Don't ask me how to pronounce this - I am clueless myself. Being a huge eggplant lover, my sister was a happy camper with this dish. Their chargrilled eggplant didn't turn bitter despite the grilling, remaining moist on the inside, and went perfectly with their sauce, mushrooms, caramelised onions and haloumi. It's like a vegetarian steak, but with a completely new texture that just makes you keep wanting more of everything. The sister highly approves! 😏👍🏻
After hearing me constantly rave over Artichoke, my sister had high hopes coming here with me to eat. (She's the pickiest eater.) And trust me, she didn't even bother talking to me throughout lunch, because she was too busy eating her food. What amazes me always is how Artichoke takes such simple vegetables like this cauliflower, and completely transforms it to a whole new level of yum and satisfying. It makes you eat vegetables without thinking you're eating vegetables - you feel me? And they balance the flavours so well, that you will happily mop up everything (with their delicious pita bread) and luxuriate in every final bite. I swear - if my parents had brought me here when I was five, I think I'd actually enjoy eating vegetables. Typing this has made me hungry again. Help. 😂
Dreaming of the cupcakes I had here 2 weeks ago. One of the best cupcakes in Singapore, because they are soooo moist and fluffy (though equally sinful and delicious). I want my cupcakes!!! I love their cinnamon brown sugar and their (rarely seen, but still my favourite) peanut butter and jelly cupcake. Even at room temperature they taste so GUD ❤ I need this now :(
One of the oldest establishments in Singapore in making popiah, this place certainly did not disappoint. They usually add stuffings like crab meat (imitation kind, which I'm not a fan off so I request it not to be inside) so I guess I'm not fully able to rate this popiah. Nevertheless, the popiah is definitely one of the better ones I've had, with soft and chewy skin and perfectly fried crunchy bits in the popiah which gave it extra oomph factor. Yes I would gladly eat this again!
Cucumbers in popiah! This is the first time I've had cucumbers 🥒 which made me get taken aback when I first ate it. This is perhaps the healthiest rendition of the popiah, with the addition of both cooked and raw vegetables and a sauce that was light to the palate, without being overly sweet. The skins were better than most factory made ones, though still not as soft as I like, being slightly harder to chew than those freshly made or well-kept ones. There wasn't much crunch bits, except for peanuts, though I would have preferred if they also added fried garlic crisps to add extra crunchiness. This falls in the mid-range of popiahs in Singapore, but it's really not bad for a chain store!
I've heard many people tell me that their popiah standards have fallen over the years, while prices have increased. But this has never stopped me from calling this place 'my favourite popiah' in Singapore. The auntie rolls them very thick, just the way I like it, and very tight, such that each bite you can get every bit of ingredients stuffed in the popiah. Everything here is done right: from the soft popiah skin (that magically holds everything together without breaking or falling apart) to the flavourful turnips that remain soft enough to the bite with the adequate amount of crunch. If you're a fan of the crunchy fried bits, Cosy Corner pops their own rice which makes the crunchy part stay crunchy for quite some time (at least long enough for me to carry this popiah home) and they are generous with it too! I hear their chilli is also damn shiok - but my spice tolerance is too low, I think I'll cry if I ate it. 😂 Lots of people order their popiah so be sure to spend quite some time waiting. Some days I spend 20 minutes, while other days I get it within 5 minutes so it all depends on your luck!
This was from a store aptly called 'Rojak, Popiah and Cockles'. Being one of the awardees of the 'City Hawker Food Hunt' for the best Popiah in Singapore, I had to give a shot. Sadly, this isn't one of the best popiah I've eaten, and it probably isn't a popiah I would crave or return to either. The skin was quite tough to eat and chew, nothing like the handmade popiah skins that are delicate and soft. And the radishes were more wet than the usual popiah, leaving the popiah a lot more soggy than I'd like it to be. Nevertheless, Maxwell has other food options like Zhen Zhen Porridge and Min Jiang Kueh that I'd gladly eat any day.
This tastes... INCREDIBLE!!! This has got to be my most favourite coconut water so far. (the only better coconut water I know is straight from a coconut) The price is very steep compared to other coconut water, but trust me - the taste is seriously the most refreshing. And the beautiful pink hue gives me yet another reason to drag out all my money for one bottle. On the bright side, until the end of this month, they will be going at only 3 dollars at all Daily Cut Outlets if you purchase a macro bowl there.
Sooooo fluffy and sooooo fun to break into pieces to eat. I have to get a few of these every time I'm in the vicinity because they are so darn delicious. If you like salty piah, and you also love bread - you will love this! The filling taste exactly the same to the kind you will get in salty piah, and they are pretty generous with it. Each bread comes with 6 perfectly separated portions to pop into your mouth easily. And since most of it come hot out of the oven, you won't be able to resist just taking a pop of one straight after purchase. There's usually a queue and people buy a couple of breads at one shot, since it's so cheap and so good.
